E3: N-Gage Then and Now

When I think “N-Gage”, I think “Nice concept, poor execution”. Nokia showed signs of their strengths (a good thing) last year and this year is starting to capitalize on them. Now, instead of trying to beat out the PSP and DS in the “handheld” market, they are going for global domination in the “mobile” gaming [...]

E3 2005: N-Gage Update

Nokia announced their future N-Gage plans this week. No new phone, as we had hoped but knew we wouldn’t get. Instead there will be many new phones. Start thinking of N-Gage as a platform, not a unit. This move will allow Nokia to make different phones for different personalities and have them all be N-Gage [...]

Pre-E3: Nokia drops the N in Gage?

Someone at into-e3.nl got a very exclusive sneak peek at the E3 floor. Many things caught our eye in the video, not the least of which was this mysterious N-Gage banner, minus the N. Now, as we were previously discussing the N-Gage, this COULD be the next big development from Nokia. To bad the lighting [...]

Is Nokia bluffing E3 with the N-Gage?

Joel of Kotaku, err Gizmodo, fame is raising a very interesting question about this year’s E3: What’s up with Nokia? Will we see the mysterious N-Gage 2.0? Or will we just see N-Gage colors? Some (Joel) say that Nokia will brew out a whole series of N-Gage capable phones, and that’s fine alright by me. [...]

N-Gage 2.0 Becoming More Real

Nokia had rumors flying of a nextgen N-Gage system almost a year ago. Now, especially now with the PSP launch buzz, Nokia is telling everyone they have an announcement they’ll be making at E3 in May. Nokia still has a shot at this handheld thing. Even with the crappy outdated hardware, they have some [...]

Nokia Teams Up With T-Mobile, EBGames for $99 N-Gage QD Launch

In a three way partnership through Nokia, T-Mobile, and Electronics Boutique, the new N-Gage QD will be offered for $100 off the original $199 street price. EB customers who sign-up for a 1 year cell phone contract through carrier T-Mobile will receive a $100 rebate, making their system only $99 in the end.
The rebate is [...]

Nokia Admits Sales Not What Expected

Finally. Nokia’s been counters admitted today that the N-Gage didn’t sale as well as they expected. Nokia reported a 6% decrease in unit sales during the second quarter and a 5.7% decrease in company-wide earnings.
But (there’s always a “but”) profits did increase 14% over the quarter for the company and a 31% market-share in the [...]

Nokia N-Gage QD Ships Half-Assed

A lot of N-Gage news buzzing around today. Mostly, that their system has shipped in Europe, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific…but not in the Americas or Japan. This is a disappointment as the recent interview with Nokia’s Nada Usina had Nokia grin-toothing the fact that they were the first to ever pull-off a completely global launch [...]

Nokia’s In It To Win

GameDaily has an exclusive interview with Nada Usina, Director of Entertainment at Nokia, in which we find out that one of Nokia’s main efforts with the N-Gage was to educate and innovate how the industry thinks about gaming.
Nokia has been an innovator, whether it’s been mobile phone technology or in other areas, and it’s not [...]

N-Gage welcomes Atari and Capcom as Developers

We found an article on DesignTechnica about some new publishers for the N-Gage. Looks like Nokia’s reps were at E3 doing what they do best: schleping and schmoozing. They have new development deals set with both Atari and Capcom. Capcom will be giving us MegaMan for sure. Atari has will be making a [...]
