DS Online Tunneling Coming April 11th? Perhaps.
An Italian company has a deep secret that any DS owner would love to get a sneak peek at. On April 11th, Jadrule will be releasing the public beta launch of DS Linkup – the first successful third-party tunneling software for the DS. Well, we’ll see.
This project could propel some great things in the DS community. Imagine the drawings an international Pictochat room would render. Imagine Ridge Racer with a full 8 players drifting into the same corner. Someone might actually buy PingPals!
Ok, so the games linup isn’t too hot for online play right now. I could see myself wasting a grand load of time on Pictochat with some online friends. Madden online would also be a worthwhile endeavor. But the true online strengths are still around the corner in Animal Crossing, some RTS games (perhaps Age of Empires or Command and Conquer), Mario Kart, and additional sports titles.
So while I applaud the efforts of Jadrule for their hardwork and devotion to such a product, I’m not holding my breath until I have the product in hand. The software is free. Great! Even though I’d pay for such an app, just not right now.
(Same Old) Verdict: The DS Needs More Games!
[A SEPERATE NOTE: Perhaps I'm just sceptical as April Fool's Day was just a few days ago and this feels like it could be leftovers, the website is just one giant image hosted on free servers on a free domain, and we're told it that it will work with any 802.11b router (no adapters?). We truly hope this project comes to light, we'll just wait til April 11th to see.]

The legend returns!
Nice to have you back man. Check the site in a few mins for some “conspiracy” updates.
It won’t require any hardware. Just a program on your computer. I have a LINKSYS WRT54G Wireless Router hooked up and I can already find my DS on it with packet sniffers. The DS, just like the PSP, is online out of the box.. but it requires the game software or software on a computer to go online.
Oh, thanks for adding DS style headers to DS news. It’s classy. Now, we just need a generalized top for the main portagame section.
Also, nice to see iamlegend back. I haven’t posted anything new in a while myself. But I have been religious deleting spam posts, and those useless posts people do to tell us how high they are or how much they like “poop.” *sighs* I guess maybe those people should bother NEOPETS and not a serious web ledger like this. Although, we like the visitors! Just.. if all they have to say is how much they like poop… maybe they’d be better off spending that time clicking on the BANNERS instead of posting things like that.
oh cool, I was wondering who was beating me to the comment spam. I need to keep that trigger finger ready.
We’ll be getting more headers for the other sections too. As soon as I have some time at work to spare.
And regarding the tunnel, I was under the impression that the trick isn’t getting a PC or router to recognize the DS, it’s getting the DS to ping back. I read somewhere (a lot of stuff crosses my feed readers) that a wireless adapter will most likely be required for the DS to recognize another transmitter. But then again I could be mixed…it happens. :0
Naw. It just needs a program to look for in normal online games and that’s what GameSpy will be providing. My memories of GameSpy are a bit mixed because I liked them for their support of Blizzard and hated their online reviews/news sites but also loved them for the E3 SARS maskes they handed out.. but hate them for what they did with their capital. o_O
With tunneling, you have to have a program that says: “Hey! That encryption is such and such!” Then sends a set response back to it. Meaning, you’ll need an online community to track down opponents.
I have linksys wireless B router and I was wondering, do I have to go in router settings and mess around to get the ds online? should I set MTU ta something or put DMZ on?
