EA Games DO NOT Support Online PSP Play
If you’ve spent the past two days trying to get an EA PSP game to go online–STOP TRYING! Apparently the rumors that EA would support online play at launch were false. Apparently, the printing on the back of all the EA PSP games stating support for infrastructure (online) support are also false. Dan at Blog for the Sports Gamer tried hooking up his new PSP to play a little Tiger Woods online and couldn’t get it to work. He the found this online retraction that stated he will never get it to work and most likely became disenfranchised (EA is becoming good at that). This news is rather disturbing, as I was looking forward to picking up NFL Street 2 only to play online against my out-of-state brothers. Now that won’t happen.
Now if you are struggling to get infrastructure support to work for a game that actually DOES support it (like WipeOut Pure, etc.), there is a comprehensive PSP Online FAQ that has been compiled by Lt.Ping on the Official Playstation forums. Just don’t expect to get Need For Speed to work for it.
PIPE anyone?

thanks fox - there is a link to Kai already on the last line of the post (”PIPE Anyone?”). You do need a specific wireless adapter to pipe through, though.
Are you sure that Wipeout Pure supports that? I have it, and it seems as though it only supports local-area multiplayer. It has a “Downloads” option which does use infrastructure mode and it works for me, but it just takes you to a “coming soon” landing page and that’s it.
Wipeout Pure does NOT support online play, sadly. Only Ad-Hoc, and downloadable things. Funnily enough, Gretzky Hockey does support infrastructure mode, but the labeling on the back only says “Ad-Hoc” in english, then “Ad-Hoc / Infrastructure” in FRENCH! Go figure eh.
Tek, you must live in Canada too, or else you wouldn’t have got the french part… People in the U.S. wouldn’t know about that lol.. Infrastructure only for the french… smells like a conspiracy
There is alot left to iron out with online play, yet it is a bit shady to put it on your packaging and then say “oops sorry about all i’ve told you”.
well psp is sweet im wondering how
to play online so if EA works HOW!!!
i also wanna say DS is no competition and DS sucks compared to PSP.
WELL: That sucks that u can’t go on EA games because I bought it for multiplaying That is misleading info couldn’t they get in trouble!
i bought tony hawks underground 2 for the psp a few days ago i think it’s a EA game, and im so mad about that i does not play online even that the box said it did i think im going to go back to the store and get my money back.
I’s tinks thats is you… your grammar makes me cry at night dude.
Anyway, the PSP is barely 3 weeks off the shelves, no one’s had time to bring up a network for PSP. That’s why the wi-fi ties into other hot spot networks like universities or airports, but Sony MUST be coming out with a huge update soon for internet browsing. So let’s be patient, play some games and see what happens.

does anyone know if when battlefield-modern combat comes out on PSP if it will be playable online?
Thanks zac
Umm can someone set a link to show where you can download the xlink program to play psp online please.
whats up all. i just had a quick question. do you have to pay for online play at all or is it totally free???? thanx
whats up..i just got a psp and i want to play against others around the world…i already have the kai thing…what other hare ware do i need…my computer connection is jsut an ethernet cable coming from the wall into my pc…thanks for any feedback!?!?!??!
hey hows it going… like drew i also recently received a psp for my birthday. i am really new to this and was wandering if someone could help me out. i have the game MLB from 989 sprots and when i try to play online it keeps saying that i cant find the access point.WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? another question. what does it mean when it says internet connection may be required for certain WI-FI functionality? what is WI-FI? and it says that the player is responsible for all WI-FI fees… i thought it was free? please help me!!!!
It is free, if you already have internet. I assume you do since you logged on here, but you also need a wireless router. You can find those at Bestbuy or places like that. I already had one in my house since I have a wireless card in my computer, and I use that to log on.
Also, how do you like MLB? Is it a fun game, any good? I just don’t know if it is worth to buy right now, and might wait. Just picked up Tony Hawk, and that game is great (Though I never played Tony Hawk Underground 2, so the game is new for me, but I heard it is like an exact port).
i really like mlb i think it is a great game and it would be really fun to play over the internet. its easy to get into and you get to control pretty much everything. and like usual you get to pick from all of the teams. thanks for the info i appreciate it.
i also just thought of another question. if you buy a router do you still need a usb cable? thank you.
If you want to play online on your PSP with MLB and you have a router you don’t need need a USB cable.
i got wipeout pure to play online ONLY, like it said on the back of the fucking box, but no all u get is a link to their website to download shit, false advertising by EA, they make good games no doubt about that but they are also misleading money grabbing fucks nothing more nothing less, like whats this shit about the battle for middelearth, u have to but a whole new game costing around €60 just to be able to play network games..thats bullshit.u wont fool me again EA
and why the fuck do u dumbass americans have the date like this e.g. 10/19/05 ????? get with the rest of the world and do it proper like 19/10/05

Well from my point of view i think it’s a bit different from that . What you have to do is to simulate a psp with your pc . at your pc you grab a software called X-LINK Kai which you can download. The software provides the connection and so you can play any ad-hoc game over the internet . the only limitation is that you need a pc in your homenetwork . i hope this will help . fox .
