Gameboy Evolution Specs?
The boys over at N-Sider.com did an excellent job rounding up some specs on the next GameBoy system, the GameBoy Evolution. No, this is not the DS. Nintendo has stated a million times that the DS is not going to take the place of or be in competition with the GameBoy line (but the backwards compatibility with GBA games does make us wonder. So, what is in store for the GBE?
Do note, this isn’t information about the DS. The next Game Boy will supposedly launch some time in 2006.
* The working title is “Game Boy Evolution”.
* The system will have a flip-top design, similar to the GBA SP.
* Games will come on mini-discs, as opposed to cartridges.
* The graphics will be slightly better than those found on the Sega Dreamcast.
* Bluetooth wireless networking will be built in.
* The system will feature backwards compatibility, but not in the same way the GBA plays old Game Boy games. Supposedly there will be a device that will allow you to download games from their carts into a harddrive-like element of the new Game Boy. Confusing, yes, but that’s all we’ve managed to gleam. Speculate as you like.* The system’s screen will be lit, similar to the GBA SP.
Truly systems are breaking away from the TV and becoming mobile arsenal. The next five years are going to be great (and we’re ready)!
[Update: I forgot to mention that the same article also covers some specs for their next GC Console too.]

O my god.. another handheld from nintendo? im getting sic of all these new handhelds comin out. i mean its cool and all but every time i get the new handheld its like another one is just about to come out.. this has been happening since the original gameboy advance. they need to slow down a bit
its great 2 c nintendo release 2 handheld gaming machine’s this will destroy the PSP becasue not only has nintendo beat sony in sales of the PSP but now they will compete with them with another better (better power wise)system.
i do NOT believe you people!!
the nintendo president said that they are not going to try to compete w/ microsoft and sony power-wise any more, u know why? the truth hurts-they cant.
the psp is superior, i had a ds, i sold it to get a psp, even though they only gave me 80 dollars. This next one will have sega dreamcast power- big deal compared to the psp’s ps2 graphics. :’( just cry nintendo fanboys, b/c nintendo is the 3rd of the 3 big companies- and it b/c they think they can compete with them with their “unique gameplay.” the nintendo systems are meant for little kids- all their games are rated “E” for everyone. The people who buy any nintendo system really have no idea what theyre missing in sony and microsoft!!!
While I really should not comment on Lee’s post, casting pearls before swine and all that. I feel I should state a few things.
The PS2 did not have superior graphics to the Dreamcast. It just had superior SPACE on the discs it used. (DC 1.8GB to PS2 4GB+) Compare Shen Mue 2 to the current generation of PS2 games. There is very little difference. The two systems were on par with each other in terms of graphics power. Sony tends to pad their specifications in non-gaming situations. We all saw examples of that with the PS2’s early spec lists. If those were to be believed, the PS2 would have superior graphics to the Xbox, which it clearly does not have. As for the PSP’s graphics? I laughed for hours when I first saw Death Jr. for the PSP. It amused me because, I proceeded to boot up Conker’s Bad Fur Day for the N64 and that game had better graphics than Death Jr. All things considered, the DS is slightly better in the graphics department than the N64. If you want a realistic ceiling for the DS, look at games like Final Fantasy 9/Metal Gear Solid on the PSOne, or Majora’s Mask/Resident Evil 2/Sin & Punishment on N64. But back to the subject at hand.
Nintendo is the only company to pull a NET profit in the last year. They still own nearly 70% of the handheld market in Japan. Here in the USA, despite the introduction of the PSP, Nintendo still owns 90% of the handheld market. They lead every company, including SquareEnix and EA in terms of SOFTWARE units moved. In terms of sales, Nintendo sold more combined units of the Game Cube, GBA, GBA SP, and Nintendo DS last year than Sony sold units of the PS2, PSOne, PSP, and PSX in Japan.
Nintendo is far from last in this race. Only in America is the Xbox a viable second place system. Everywhere else, the Xbox is third in sales behind the Game Cube. In Japan, the original long GBA units outsell the Xbox on a weekly basis.
The whole idea that all of the games on the Nintendo Game Cube are for kids is blatantly dumb. Some of the best selling games on the Game Cube are rated M (Resident Evil 4), or T (Metroid Prime, Super Smash Bros. Melee). The E rating is not a designation of a “childish” game, nor is T and M a designation of a more “mature” title. The E rating on game consoles is closer to PG than anything else. That is why the E10 rating was created. People misinterpret the E to be the same as G, when it is really the same as PG. There are currently no EC (Early Childhood) games on the Game Cube, and there are no AO (Adults Only) games on any of the current consoles.
As for specs? The Game Cube is right below the Xbox and right above the PS2 in graphics output. Any developer can confirm that. Although the specs listed from “N-Sider” have been disproven already, better than Dreamcast graphics would mean the system was almost on par with the Game Cube in terms of graphic output. In other words, it would be better than the PSP in the graphics section.
That said, Nintendo states they aren’t “competing” because they prefer spending their time working on software, and hardware instead of trotting out overblown specs and such. Ever notice that whenever a new Nintendo system is announced, people go on and on about the GAMES for the system. (Mario, Kirby, Zelda, Metroid, Punch-Out, Pikmin, F-Zero, etc.) Right now, everyone is all hyped up about the SPECS of the Xbox 360 and the PS3. You do not play SPECS, you play GAMES.
I second dmgice’s opinion. we have said time and time again on this site, playng games with blood does not make you mature. Your only act like a little kid when you have to determine how mature you are by what games you play.
i dont like it when people say that nintendo ds has beaten the psp…ummm…its been out for 3 weeks just so you know and has already sold 600 000 units in America. going at this rate, you do the math. lets just say nintendo has a head start. a BIG head start so nothing’s been proven yet.
I distinctly remember saying that nintendo will come out with another portable system in a year or so and WOW was i right. that makes me mad cuz nintendo seems to be incapable of upgrading their dam systems. All they want to do is make new ones instead of working with the ones they have.
And as for blacknite’s comment up there…i dont care if this new nintendo system ‘destroys’ psp. I’l be laughing the day you go buy the system after waiting over a year for it, spent another 300 dollars on it (probably more) and buy the games for it and then you realize you’ve spent tons more money for your ds,then accesories, then comes GBE and the games for that, thet you would have spent buying a psp and being happy with that in the first place. psp does everything you could want without all the dam bullcrap nintendo keeps throwing at you.
can we just accept the fact that psp is quite better than the ds and stop arguing about it. after all, the first sign is that its 100 bucks more than the DS!…thats a dead giveaway, so it obviously should do more…and thats exactly what it does and its going to sell more systems at this rate so… yeah im done
In Japan.. The DS has sold over 2 million units, launched at the beginning of November 04..and the PSP just broke a million units, and that was launched at the beginning of December 04! Month apart. DS with a million more units sold..
In Europe.. the DS was launched on March 11th, and towards the end of March, sales reported well with an astounding 500 000 units sold, with many retailers reporting that the were out of stock of the DS’. The PSP on the otherhand.. has been delayed for several months because of a “high demand” in America..
America? I bet you can go to a local game store and *gasp* no psps.. But why don’t you go down to one of your local Wal Marts, Fred Meyers, Target, or Best Buys (or something of that sort).. I’m sure you’ll find that they have many PSPs in stock.. If you don’t believe me.. go look!
So as far as DS being out longer and selling less units.. Whatever.
Egger, listen a sec.
The DS was brought out so that they could keep some sales coming in while the PSP was doing very well(nobody doubted it would do) and to make sure they had a new console out instead of the Sont leeching all the consumers’ money. Next year, while Sony and Microsoft are keeping quiet, Nintendo will release the GBE which after a year the consumers’ will no doubt have recovered financially enough to buy one in most cases and the GBE will be the PSPs newer, direct competition. By that point, many people will be bored with their DSs and PSPs and Nintendo will certainly shift a hell of a lot of GBEs. That all from a business point of view.
From a gamers point of view, Nintendo are the only company that come up with new ideas (touch pad, tiny discs (on Gamecube), compatibility between handheld and console, microphone etc…)) while all the other companies are too afraid to be creative and brave. If it wasn’t for Ninty, we would probably still be playing consoles very similarly resembling the Sega, with 8-bit graphics. Don’t call us fanboys, we’re loyal. You’re a fanboy just going with the flow to look cool with your PSP coz others’ have them, well wait till E3 and we’ll see whose cool.
Hey calm down fanboys I know everyone thinks the psp and ds are competing against eachother but that’s not what nintendos plan is.
DS is NOT meant to compete or replace anything it’s just the bait for gamers like us to stay with them and wait for…………..
GAME BOY EVOLUTION! Ya Nintendo is just trying to dter the consumers away from the psp with the ds until the new gb comes out so psp does not have to beat ds it’s competition is with gbe, ds, gba, and gba sp Ninty’s handheld army against the psp. I personally want the psp to stick around just long enough for gbe to come out. Besides everyone complains about ds and how technologically weaker it is but what they aren’t thinking about is how the gbe is supposed to be either near psp’s graphical capabilties or past them so sony watch out… Nintendo’s got you marked.
That’s right Jason.
Nintendo’s DS is the keep the fans of Nintendo occupied until the GBE is out. If you think about it, they have trapped Sony perfectly. Ninty had the bulk of their team working on the GBE and a smaller one working on the DS. Of course, with only the DS going public Sony thought they were getting it easy and had no back up plan at all for Nintendo’s real idea. Turns out though that now, while everyone enjoys their DSs and PSPs, a new, more powerful handheld is on the horizon and without Sony realising it, they haven’t got anything scheduled for 2006 to combat the GBE!
Oh, Egger, Nintendo announced work on the GBE back before they announced the DS. They announced an early screen size of 300×200 Pixels. However, that spec has changed rather drastically. The screen on the GBE is slightly smaller than the PSP’s screen and bigger than the DS screens. The current size puts it at 3 and a half inches. The PSP has a 4 inch screen. Nintendo showed off OLED screens for the Game Cube back in 2003 and the early Kodak demonstration prototype of the OLED in a marketable situation was in an old style GBA.
Essentially, the GBE will have a slightly smaller screen than the PSP.. but the resolution on the OLED would be 640×480. In other words, a real high def handheld. So, yes, a sharper screen than the PSP and real high def games. Should be interesting.
Sony is already working on a replacement version for the PSP. So, they intend to keep competeing. Expect the new Sony handheld device to debut in 2007, or early 2008 as it goes currently.
heh. That was a different jason, not me. (I admin modded your name jason to avoid further confusion).
Couldn’t have been me. I’m a total DS fanboy. Sometimes, I’ll let the PSP spoon the DS if they’ve both been good and the DS isn’t in heat. Have to keep them pure breed you know.
i love nintendo and never want it lose to sony!im from asia .here nintendo seems to be lost.loning for GBE!!!
wait wait all dmgice said is that the psp has 4 inch horizontally and it’s like 2 to 3 inches vertically and that means psp’s screen’s perimeter is around 12 to 14 inches if the speculation for the gbe screen is right then that means the gbe screen is 3.5 inches in both directions so that means the perimeter is also 14 inches so psp owners have something else they can’t brag about…
i hope im speaking for all the Nintendo gamers out there when i say this: My choice for games is Nintendo. Im a loyal nintendo gamer at heart. ive been a gamer since 1992 when i got my first NES. today, my love for nintendo has been growin and growin,….and growin
im now a gamer of the only true gaming company that has guts to move in different directions (sure sony made the psp with its new additional entertainment add-ons, and yes ive played it and its awsome. but watchin movies and lookin at pictures and listening to music? im a gamer folks, i dont wanna dish out extra money b/c some handheld has top of the line graphics and plays movies and music, all true gamers know that the graphics dont mean sh1t if the gameplay sucks, even if the PSP delivers both). im hoping to get a DS for my bday coming up( o yea! lol) and i cant wait to get some cool games for it. but while the psp and the ds are in the spotlight right now, it will be different later. the new GBE will be out, and i hear on this page that theres gonna be ANOTHER psp coming out later. do you know why i want a ds instead of a psp? touch screen, mic, online capabilities, first party nintendo games!, and many other things, including a cheap price and innovation. now of course i want a psp too! but, you know, too expensive, you have to dish out like 340 bucks just to start playin- PSP, game, memory card- now while the sony psp fans are thinkin “dude, the ds sucks, get a psp, its way better” i say “hey dude, i want a freaking GAMING devive! not something that i wont even know how to use to its full potential, i cant download songs, why would i want pictures on it? iono, and movies? if i wanted to sit in one spot and watch a movie for at least an hour and 30 min, or be on the road in a car which i wouldnt want to do b/c i would get freakin get carsick lookin at a small screen while constantly moving, while watchin on a smaller screen than what u usually watch movies on, id just go home and look at it on my big screen peeps. now im trying to be loyal to everyone here, and if sony fanboys dont think so, i dont care. the next GB will be so awsome. and from what im hearing there will be a new PSP, but how will they make it n e better? it had ps2 graphics (which i really dont care about the friggin graphics, i count more on how much fun the actual game is) it plays music and movies. what else are you gonna do to the psp to make it better!? its already so good i dont know, maybe *thinks* (really i am thinknin) actually i tried to think of something but couldnt think of n e thing, but i know that the sony fanboys will think of something, no offense lol. my point is, these handhelds are made for each gamer, the one whos really into listening music and watching movies, and looking a pictures while at the same time you can play games, and the one that wants those new innovative games that are fun to play. (yes the psp has some awsome games too) but we will all have to see what happens when the next handhelds come out. iono y people are making the ds and psp go head to head bc the ds izznt the true succesor to nintendo’s gameboy. but the next gb will. i say that the idea of being able to play gc games on the go is cool. but iono, it just depends on what kind of needs you have. so i got out with sayin: the ds and the psp are awsome handhelds. but it will always the best ideas, will win, b/c what are you gonna do when ur graphics cant get any better than they are? what are you gonna do when your games get so repetative and they start becoming the same?. thats why im with nintendo, bc they making gamning always fun and innovative. the ds is just a distractor until nintendo pulls out the big guns. sony, your lucky that nintendo (right now) izznt making games on its handheld and are so fun, but so simple at the same time.whats sony gonna do, they dont go in new ways of gaming, and sonys not even a realy gamning company, they work on electronics, and microsoft, they work on electronics, but you know what, Nintendo is the only true game compnay bc they only work on games. but hey i game out on all three consoles. but its the handhelds that get me interested. we wil c who wins. and to quote the famous Saturo Iwata (President of Nintendo) ” On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer.” Saturo Iwata. Peace out gamers.
Basically what has been said is A)DS is Nintedo’s way of stalling PSP until they can launch Evolution and B)Evolution will beat PSP into submission returning Nintedo to the Handheld Premiership. When Evo comes out, I’ll buy it, but I’ll still shell out cash for my DS. Especially once online play gets implemented, and online games are released. Age of Empires and Advance Wars come to mind for possible online candidates. Plus Metroid which would be really cool. I’d like to see a Nintendo with a real powerhorse underneath the hood, Nintendo has consistently had great games, despite not having the best hardware, and to see Nintedo with both great hardware AND their innovative ability would be… well it would be somewhere between winning a car, and having your girlfriend turn into Angelina Jole.
The oldest example of Nintedo competing in the handheld market is well, Gameboy and GameGear. And look who won that. On a side note, the Dreamcast had 128 bit support but only a 64 bit bus. Plus, at such a small screen size, relatively weak graphics kick butt. I’ve run my N64 on a 6″ tv a few times, and let me tell you, it looks pretty nice. Perhaps the greatest news in the last 5 years for Nintendo has been the return of Square and the Final Fantasy line. I personally have over 450 hours of save time on my FFTA game, with more than 200 hours deleted. Thats almost 10 straight days of gameplay, which for a handheld is insane. Nintendo alone can build a handheld which I will play like a console, at home, sitting/laying on my couch. PSP to me is just a novelty, something neat and fun to tinker with, but soon boring. I took one on a band trip to Atlanta, and I tell you one thing, a movie just isnt the same on that small of a screen. PSP has the problem of being a Multi Media Device, in a market full of MMDs. Practically every major PocketPC can be adapted to do what a PSP does, outside of gaming, and even then, only requires some major upgrades to the hardware. XBOX:MOBILE anyone?
still…i prefer owning a psp over waiting for new consoles to come out, i just dont have the patience. for people who dont have any multimedia devices like palm pilots or whatever, then the psp is wonderful. I just want to own the device that does the most in ONE console; music, movies, games, sold.
what i like in the psp is the games, the games and what matters to the games. the multi-media is nothing special, umd discs, super expensive 1gb memory cards that dont even warrent the purchase and use on the system for multimedia, and a massive, huge mp3 player with a super sensitive screen thats a massive fingerprint collector. not near as convenient as say, an ipod. and for 1 gb of mp3’s, JUST for the memory card for the psp - it’ll cost you $150-$200, but you can get a WHOLE mp3 player with 1 whole gb, on its own, for less then $100. the mp3 player is absolutely senseless. the movie player is a bit better, but nothing special, again, $150-$200 to get even a tiny bit of high quality movie. umd’s, no thanks.
dont get me wrong, i think the psp is great, but i think the whole multi-media garbage is totally pathetic and unneccesary.
I must add a few comments here. I was a Sony lover for a long time. I bought a PS2 even though it let me down many times. As to what it was supposed to do and what it really did. I even sold my Xbox and GCN to buy it. Dumb move on my part i will say. I bought and then 1 week later sold a PSP. A nice looking and playing machine i will say. The very long load times killed me. Not because i did not know about the load times. I did. But i never knew they would be that long. Over 2 min at times. For a system that was ment for the “on the go” gamer to play in small time frames, as a quick fix, it failed badly because of the long loads. My GBA SP loads is ready to play in about 15 seconds. I also sold my DS to buy like 4 games for the PSP. Stupid. But i trusted Sony to deliver. I won’t again. I am not slanging Sony at all, but they need to shape up and kill or shorten the loads on PSP and PS2 (and the up coming PS3).
I have a Sony TV/MP3 player/PDA and am very happy with them.
Sony will no longer be getting my gaming dollar however.
I look forward to the Xbox 360 and the GB Evolution.
load times? on what games was the loading wait 2 minutes? i have metal gear acid, wipeout pure, and Lumines for the psp an the load times are just…arent that long at all! like 15-20 seconds. maybe your just not beeing patient, what games did u have?
i also cant wait to check out the xbox 360. im a sony guy myself but im interested to see what other game developers bring to the table. I want to see the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 before i make a decision.
The games for the psp, i must say, are very fun. i agree that the multimedia isn’t to special but it depends on how you use it. i use it to watch tv shows i missed and to play music but i dont feel like watching a movie on it to often. anyway, like i said the games for portable systems are very fun and uncomplicated, i like em so far, but im building a computer right now so im behind in my gaming a little
“I even sold my Xbox and GCN to buy it. Dumb move on my part i will say”
HAHA! ill say it too! dumb move on your part! lol! nah but seriously dood im sorry you did that :(, i feel bad for you.
i was a massive sony fan too, the psx was awesome, then they give me such an awesome designed system - the PSOne with the lcd screen. that thing still reigns as the most well created console yet! and yet - the ps2 is not even the tiniest fraction as great as the psx was. its got good games, dont get me wrong, but none of them were near as memorable as the originals.
Anyone who opposes the nintendo is a
racies.Nintendo been around long enough to know what they are doing.
The PSP seems like too much. This goes along with these next-gen systems that do EVERYTHING. I wonder if the PS3 will be able to make me breakfast in bed?
I like nintendo’s philosophy. They are into gaming. Not movies, not multimedia, just gaming.
For example: Speakers. Yes, sony makes speakers. They are pretty good, not too shabby. BUT, people who SPECIALIZE in speakers make much better ones. (like bose). This phenomena happens with phones (nokia kicks sony’s ass.)
I believe that this is the same situation with gaming. Sony is good at making every kind of electronics decently well. Nintendo can put it’s entire self behind gaming, and make it better.
I haven’t gotten even two-thirds of the way down there yet; I gave up after the really long comment by the guy with lots capitals and lower cases in his name; copying and pasting 4 later review. I’d just like to point a point to you
N- Haters out there.
How many of you have ever even PLAYED a good Nintendo game? (aka SSBM, Metroid Prime, Zelda)
I am a sega fan at heart, but I like Nintendo right now. I will say that obviously the PSP is an impresive piece of hardware. But so was the GameGear, the Nomad, the Lynx and such. Nintendo knows that multimedia and graphics can entice people, but it is the quality of a game that delivers. Look at Fable for XBOX. Very pretty graphics. But it is extremely short. People don’t like games with major flaws, no matter how great they look. I don’t think that people looking to play games on the go want to spend nearly 300 dollars just to do it. I’d much rather get a home console then. The DS is wonderfull. It’s like a Sega 32X or maybe Sega CD type of thing for the Gameboy Advance. The games coming soon for it look amazing and some incredibly innovative with the touch screen. Supposedly there is organizer software coming for it too. Besides that, it could probably do what the PSP does. I mean the origional GameBoy had a camera and printer for it! I saw a picture the other day and it’s probably fake, but it was a GameBoy Evolution. It was a flip top shaped like the SP, and the bottom looked exactly like a gamecube controller minus the Z button. It was black and silver, and the screen looked to be about a five inch square screen. The “controller” layout was as I said the same as Gamecube, jusst a little tighter. It has a disk coming out of it, the size of a Cube disk and the screen shows Wind Waker on it. It COULD be real because the money is on the left side of the screen and the item button layout on the screen is dirrerent, but maybe it is just the japanese version. The Evolution is supposedly going to be able to play Cube games and download gameboy, gameboy color and gameboy advance games, similar to the Revolution being able to download the nes, super nintendo and nintendo 64 games. How cool would it be to have the Revolution and the Evolution and be able to play any game ever for any Nintendo system ever? I’d do it if I were Nintendo…
A handheld Play Gamecube game in as soon as 2 years? I dont think so.. The way this Graphic Evolution is going itll take atlest 4-5 years at lest. I recently lost A DS and my heart changed to just buy a PSP but after reading your reviews, Sticking with The DS aint bad at all.
i think the DS is a total piece of shit…looks okay…graphics suck… games are shitty…and as far as ive been told by people in game stores they break easy…. i think psp is completely better no competition….
o yea another thing …., the DS has been selling way better than the PSP in Japan, and the PSP has all that funcionality crap multimedia features. it just goes to show u that GAMES sell handhelds , not multimedia stuff (ex. the game “Nintendogs” helped boost DS sales, with over 400,000 copies of the game being sold, with 1/3 of those bought with a DS) i rememberseeing an article about how much better the DS was doing in Japan, i remember seeing ont called “DS kicking PSP’ butt” and im not kidding
i really dont understand nintendo. Even if this evolution dose have dreamcast capabilities dosen’t mean that it will be stonger than the psp. The psp right now is clocked down by 50% to conserve energy. Whichs means in the near future when sony come out with a better baterie they will allow the psp to go up in power by 50%. Right now its at ps2 graphics. Nintendo is stupid if this is true. First 2006 would be a bad time to release it in the first place seeing how the new consols are coming out and im sure the are’t going to be cheap. There about to release the micro. They just released the ds. The psp just came out. Releasing something like that this soon just shows that the ds has failed. And another thing if your going to release somthing like that in 2006 why not give it graphics like a x-box. Whos not to say that sony comes out with another handheld and outdose nintendo again. To people who say that the psp has not been selling well. Ds has sold 5 mill worldwide in about 9 and a half months and it has been released everywhere. Psp has sold 2.5 mill its been out in 7 months in japan 4 in us and hasn’t been released in europe yet or hasn’t had a holiday season yet and has had twice the suport from other companies look at all the stuff and advertisment for it not sony related. I think nintendo has a bad strategy which wont work with microsoft or sony. but one thing nintendo fanboy and sony fanboys can say is that the n-gage sucks. RIGHT.
you nintendo is a self substaining corperation. It dosen’t matter how crappy or outdated the shit is that they come out with every year. There is about 10 to 20 million fanboys who will always perchase the crap no matter what the situation
All battles end up showing that better graphics tend to actually worsen a system. Obsiously, the Gamecube beat out the PS2 in graphics, as did the PSP with the DS. But, earlier launch dates helped the latter in both match-ups. The only difference is that Nintendo produces their stuff for far less, meaning they have to be outsold by a lot to actually be beaten. Then again, they have to win, as they are now the only video-game-restrictive company that releases systems anymore.
The Evolution leaves Nintendo with two options. In a worst-case scenario, which might result from a horrible overtake of the DS by the PSP in the handheld market, they could release the Evolution earlier and have it just barely beat the PSP, even at its alleged full strength. However, if this overtake does not happen, then they could just take their time with the Evolution and release it as a far more capable system before Sony knows what hits them. They will be different types of systems, but Nintendo has to use them together for the best results.
The evolution will not beat the psp. The Ds has a better chance than the evolution. The best thing for it is that when it hits the market everyone who has a ds will trade it in for the evolution. So ds will probaly loose the support it s has and disappear. As far as i am concerned you have you nintendo fan and sony fans. So both handhelds are here to stay and future ones from both companies will be here soon. But this evolution is a bad idea so soon. If they want it to beat the psp they need to make it better than the psp. Dreamcast graphics dont beat psp graphics right now and psp is soon to have 50% better graphics. Evolution wont beat it there unless it has something between gamecube and X-box. And its most likely going to loose all those innovations you nintendo fans are so in love with. All nintendo dose is get the same 10 million customers they get every year and all the kids who can afford there cheap products. Sony and microsoft have forced thereselve anyway you want to look at it into nintendo’s market and take it more and more every year and the psp proves that.
Like i said there are about 10 to 20 nintendo fan boys out there who for now will always buy nintendo products. So i never said they wouldn’t get any sales. There no need to bring up typos because you spelled some somne. I have own nintendos handheld and consols and have played all of them. They just aren’t as good lately. I didn’t so that for sure ds would dissappear I said probaly. The sp and the advance are the exact same thing basically. They just have a different disign. So if game comes out for the advance it comes out for sp and visa versa. Plus they didn’t have any outside competition. Single games don’t show the full capability of the system. Look at the specs, the ps2 is better in most areas than the dreamcast. Sp been out for 2 years and anyway i dont think ds will beat sp. Psp has 2 processors that can run at1-333 mgh and at this point wont go above 222 mgh. so it will increase by 50 percent. In the past it didn’t matter what nintendo did they had no competition. Now they do so they have to be a little more careful in what there handhelds are or consols. They need to give what you typical person want. Not just one of there beloved fans.
I said likely about the innovations. I didn’t say for sure. Nintendo wants to sell this thing for 100 dollars I read.I do my research. If they want dreamcast graphics, something going to change. But then again i dont know for sure. Thats why i said likely. When i said cheap i meant low cost. Mario pretty good. But i really like games like Half life 2, Doom 3, and battlefeild 2. As far as i can see nintendo has no game like that.
Ps2 sold more than 60 million. When you reach that number you will make a profet. And also you have to understand that the technology that microsoft and sony comes up with to make these products is not just used in there gaming systems. It used in alot of there products. So they dont just have to make a profet in one of there consols or handhelds to keep going. Which is what nintendo has to do. Any way you want to look at it nintendo looses more and more shares every year.
I got a DS for one thing: the touch screen. Nintendo got it right there. I have played many FPS games on the PSP, and let me tell you, while they were fun and visually impressive, none of them had control like a DS gives you.
Also take a look at Metroid: Prime Hunters. Even though I knew it was going to be impressive, it totally blew me away. On the smaller screen, it looked as nice as most PSP games I have ever seen.
The only complaint I have is that there are no serious FPS games for DS as of yet. While the PSP has games like GTA and Metal Gear Solid the DS as yet has a mediocre realistic FPS range.
