As with most press releases, photos usually come included. Here’s the latest batch of the Nintendo DS, this time courtesy of Lik-Sang.
Random thought: Perhaps they made it a little bulky so they could release a slim-version a year or two down the road, like they did with the GBA SP?

I suppose they can cut off the bits above the speakers, but that would make it quite a weird shape.
Besides, the SP was due to complaints about the GBAs screen, and why it wasnt included to start with was lithem battaries would have made it too expensive at release.
If you want to complain though, then complain about the SPs stupid lack of headphone socket O_o
The Nintendo DS is going to kick the crap out of the Sony PSP, Nintendo has never been beaten by a handheld in the many years its been up, the GBA SP has outselled the PS2, if you didnt know that, and the Xbox has outselled the PS2 and GBA SP. They have been holding back on the television consoles but when theyre ready theyll send an armegeddon of a video game console, the Nintendo 64 already had the ability to be as powerful and graphicul as the GCN (a part seperately sold was needed) in case nobody knew that, in a few years or so, Nintendos armegaddon will be unleashed…
the xbox outselling the ps2 and gba? no, dood, im sorry, thats wrong. and the add-on device i believe youre talking about is the N64 DD, which didnt make it to the states. It didnt do anything for the technology of the system, rather simply the cartridges storage space, expanding it to something closer to an actual cd-roms space. even with that, AND the 4 mb ram add-on, the n64 couldnt ever even hope to be as powerful as the cube. but i do agree with you on one point - the ds will smash the psp in sales.
oh yeah - xbox should have outsold ps2, because its so much better, but it didnt… so, just wanted to add that 
I’m wondering if he meant the Expansion Pack. It did improve the graphics for some games and with some you could not play the game without it (I think one of the newer Zelda games). But the N64 was definitely not on par with Gamecube. To me it almost hurts to play N64 games now. They are so blurry and undetailed (if you don’t believe me, go back and play Goldeneye in a deathmatch… it chugs like milk- then compare that to a deathmatch in 007 nightfire- much smoother, so much better in the graphics department). I honestly don’t think the DS will destroy the PSP but I sure hope it does. Or that they can at least co-exist. It will be a sad day if Nintendo finally falls. Either way the DS is sure to be great. And I read that there are some demo DS’s out in stores now! Anyone who has played one let us know what it’s like!
man i still play goldeneye 4 the n64. it is the best fps in my mind that and DOOM. and xbox is a P.O.S. if u want a computer get one!! not a xbox
hey just to let you guys know at any gamestop area they have ds systems that you can play or you can go to best buy when the system is released to play it because it is so dang cool the best games are probabaly metroid hunters not the first hunt the real thing and that one game the racing one u can go to http://www.ign.com and click on nintendo ds and it is the game with the yellow car its the first picture its kick ass

Don’t get me wrong, I loved the gameplay of Goldeneye at the time, but the graphics really suck compared to even the worst games now. I have this theory that graphics don’t matter so much in the 2D realm but do in the 3D. For example, I still love Legend ofZelda: A Link to the Past which the graphics are obviously not great compared to games now. Even Atari games are still good to play because they were fun and you KNOW that the graphics aren’t supposed to closely represent reality. However, in a 3D game you are trying to aproximate real life. You are using spacial references and trying to make something look like it would if it existed in real life. When you have a close approximation of that it is acceptable. But when you look at the older 3D games like Goldeneye the graphics are blurry, everything is blocky, it does not look good. The framerate is so bad on that game and the movement isn’t smooth. It’s like playing a “3D” game on the Gameboy Advance in the Gameboy Player (with the Gamecube played on the TV). If anyone has ever seen driver (GBA version) on a 32″ screen it looks HORRIBLE! I’d take old 2D graphics over N64 graphics any day. I’d rather have an SNES than a N64. At least the SNES graphics are crisp even though they aren’t 3D. Graphics DO matter to some extent.
man u know the n64 can still play 2d games. and the screen is not 32″ its 3″ big difference u dont look at a 2.1 mp pic at 11×9 do you? but srunk down it looks fine.
my TV is 32″ and playing GBA games on it looks terrible. I’m comparing that to what n64 games look like. I know it was capable of doing 2D graphics, but it was predominantly using 3D graphics which it wasn’t THAT good at (compared to graphics now).
i dont think graphics matter all that much, they do in some departments, more specifically the FPS genre. (ps - to he who said xbox sucks, is obviously naive, and doesnt know what hes talking about). i can still pick up legend of zelda: ocaina of time and have a friggin blast. same with 1080: snowboarding (the gamecube version is friggin awesome too, but its WAAAAAAY TOOOOO EASY!!!!). but yeah, josh is right, the expansion pack enahnced the graphics, textures, and resolution significantly, but gamecube quality!? no, not even a bajillionth of the same quality. seriously, play some resident evil.
also - ive seen some people mentioning ebgames being sold out of pre-sells globally, and i went to a couple of ebgames and one was preselling for the next shipment, but the other was still preselling for hte first shipment. so, my advice is to check your local stores to see, because i think the pre-sells being sold out isnt a universal truth for all stores. by the way - jason, i pre-ordered mine at the EBGames in the Great Mall… if i were you id cancel that crappy walmart pre-order and get the ebgames one, you’ll get it earlier, and you wont have to pay an extra $20 for some crappy third party accesories.
also - played it, the hunters demo and pictochat, pretty friggin cool. the hunters demo didnt play very well for me, but i think its due to the ds being stuck at a certain angle in the demo, if i was holding it correctly im sure i would be a lot more comfortable.
also - i have a big worry on my hands right now, on all the ds brochures, on all retailers sites, they advertise the ds WITH an added AC adaptor for an additional $15… it seems stupid to me for the ds to not have an AC Adaptor already packed in, considering it would NEED it to recharge, i hope nitnendo doesnt go that route of forced-to-buy-accessories-because-of-misleading-marketting-in-our-main-console-package… that would really piss me off…

DS is awesome. Not 89~ times better than the PSP, but still awesome in it’s own rights. PSP is awesome in it’s own rights too. It can charge AND connect to the internet too.

actually - you’ll NEED to buy a memory card anyway - so that $180 price tag is stupid, well, unless you use it to h ang on your wall and you never plan on picking it up…. so realistically, teh price is, at minimum - $213…

the psp will require a memory card (well, that is, unless you want to restart your game every time you pop it in), the ds will not require a memory card, because its cartridge based, the memory will be stored on the games cartridges. (cartridge saved memory is the best, even surpassing hard-drive saving in most ways). which is why i think the psp selling for $180 is bull. people think that psp vs ds price match is a mere $30… the psp’s memory card, the lowest sized one, will be $33… so really, its at LEAST a $63 difference

i love my nintendo DS. but there is only one good game out at this time and thats mario 64. i only use the touch screen and i love it. i need more games that use the system like mario. aka FF:CC, balloon trip and prime. now mario 64 will last me a good 6 weeks (i have beaten this game 3 times and its still new too me) I would say if you r on the fence on getting one get prime 2 or halo 2 and get one after the 1st of the year. ooo and if u live in a big city like boston take your ds to the park u cant hit on any girls or let any one u know see u. but u will have a good time.
o and he who said xbox sucks was me. and it does the Xbox has halo, halo 2, and fable thats it ever other game u can find on ps2 or gamecube or even the computer (halo) i have beaten halo2 and its not that good tooo ez to start with short and it is not the evolved fps that we come to expect like Far Cry and it does not even come close to unreal 2003. and as for fable u grew up too fast. and the side quest what crap was that sure u could doo alot but 4 all for nothing its no morrowind i love my ps2 for rpg i play gamecube with my friends and my sister owns a Xbox after she beat halo 2 it is used as a book end. Alright for real, lissen up. DS is perfect in every single way except for the little bit about the buttons being too close together. The system is compact and powerful. I love mine and play it all the time. For those of you morons who think it has a memory card, let me say this: Arguing on the internet is like running the special olympics. no. you won’t. they said the games are cartridges, just like the GB, GBP, GBC, GBA, and GBA SP. so you won’t lose your progress on a game as long as you save them. do you understand?

I’ll use short sentences so as to not confuse you. nintendo doesn’t USE memory card. sony does. nintendo uses cartridges. cartridges of games save your progress individually.
Super Mario 64 DS, Asphalt Urban GT, Urbz: Sims in the City, xx/xy feel the magic, madden, etc.

ds and psp the music adapter might be pointless just like it is on the psp but i still love the ds i have a creative labs mp3 player 256 mb and u can put more mb’s on it and its perfect it has fm radio and recorder so instead of paying for all of the songs u can record them if they are on the radio its awesome! but i still love the ds..please people tell me a lot about the ds even though i have madden 2005 it sucks ass!! buy super mario 64!
