More PSP Hacks
This is real apparently. You can now play UMD games on a memory stick. Basically, they have .iso images (Data image of the CD or UMD) of games, and have now successfully created a program so that you can play that .iso image of a game off of the memory stick. This is why Sony wants you to update your firmware fellas. I do not support piracy, and think that if you like a product that you obtained in less than legal ways, that you should then buy it. But thats just my stance. While I can’t tell you where to get the software to do this (PSP Hacker confirmed this story but is not hosting any illegal files for this) if you are dedicated I’m sure you can find it. Apparently it loads faster than a UMD but there is some issues with sound.
I’m interested, are those that support homebrew emulators like NES and SNES do you support this? Or are you more like me and frown upon it? Tell me what you think in the commments section.

Exactly. Using your PSP to play ripped PSP games, or GB/GBC/GBA games is stupid and hurts both companies.
Now, NES, SNES, Genesis, and MSX stuff is fine. Although the development of emulators contributes little to nothing to homebrew development.
I have to disagree as someone who used to run consoleconspiracy.com I know firsthand all the backdoor deals that Sony and Nintendo have. I don’t pirate games but you know it’s out there so just deal with it. Every system ever made will be hacked.
does anyone know how strong of a signal i am looking for if i want to get a connection to the internet with my psp with wipeout?
I think this could be useful because umd’s are bulkey as long as you own the game this if fine. plus it may get rid of the log seek times ofd the umds
Of course the main use of this hack is to play ripped PSP games, but for one big reason: BATTERY LIFE
Battery will last more if the PSP reads from the memory stick instead a spinning disk like the UMD.
i need to know where to get this as i want to put the games i own on my memory stick as i dont want to carry all the umd’s around with me
i like the emulation like old consoles.nes, snes,turbo grafix 16 ect. but if you dwonload a umd game..go buy it..with out the suport of game sales the psp will sure die like the game gear..and i am sure none of us want to see that..to help sony demolish nintendo in the handheld market we need to suport sony.

Your saying that Sony sells their products, but dosnt want to make anything off them? why do you think Sony made an upgrade on the PSP from version 1.5 to 1.52? so that people wouldnt be able to rip games and play them on their memory stick!! you know why they dont want you do rip games and play them on your memory stick? because then they arent making any MONEY!!! so what exactly do u mean by that?

Where do you log in the CODE for the contest to see if your a winner or not… Says see official rules at PlayatMcD.com. and you discover others who came to the site writing about the same problem…no where to enter the code as directed.. you need to put a direction in this site to direct them to where the MACCODE is. the site you go to to enter your MC Code is….. you go under the PSP link at the top and you scroll down to an advertisement… PSP@MCD for free… there is a link you click on to enter your code…..
To all the brilliant psp homebrew and emulator developers out there: Thank you for extending the usefulness of the psp system, it helps me to get my money’s worth from this system and gives them things to do while waiting for the next few psp games to come out.

yo, dude this was bound to happen. It sould tell sony something about how to improve the gaming experience on the psp. Just like the way you can sign on to the internet, this is an oppertunity to help make this already wonderful gaming console even better than before. Now, about the whole pirated games thing, I have a Nes Emulater downloaded with all the old school games (super mario bros., Legend of Zelda, Etc.), but, I also own the games and that old kickass unit along with it. This is a great way to possibly own the games free of charge, but it’s no the same. Setting up a game DEMO site to DEMO your favorite games is not a half bad idea, but pirating games, I think it takes awa6y some of the initial “lust” of the psp. Sony just sometimes doesn’t step away to see the big picture.
There is nowhere to put the stupid code for the bigmac game! I don’t understand this, does anyone know how out there. I don’t even like big macs and got some just to play the game! I won’t fall for any of the other stupid games they have!
2-days ago we were able to go to site and enter codes but took a while with teasing messages only to say bet we see you nest time you know you want to win,I’ve been waiting for you,Maybe you’ll win next time. Now we go to site but never get to actual site goes to a google list with note WAIT but site never loads. Now we got codes with nowhere to enter them.

honestly the emulation process is freakin sweet. i dont see why sony just doesnt let it be. and people using piracy is also fine with me. because sony would still be making money off of it. memory cards as we all know are expensive. and for emulators and games on your memory card takes up alot of the memory. so either way you have to buy a memory stick big enough to support the games you want and its like $50 for like the 256mb. so either way sny would make money and it would also atract more costumers because they are getting their moneys worth and some people cant afford to buy all the games. honestly although i can affor psp games i would still rather use the 49 dollars on my girlfriend and the psp games are overpriced as are the umd movies. the umd movies are pretty cool the fact that they really eat up your memory is a downside. And the fact that you can get your own dvds and convert them into your psp requires you to get huge memory stick. you would need a 500 mb and up. so people would most likely just upgrade to the 1gb memory stick which is around $100 and up so either way through movies, emulatiion, and even piracy sony is still making money. maybe not as much but they are still getting some.

I beg to differ on your comment about memory stick asphyxiated. If you hadn’t found out by now, hackers have developed a way to use non-duo memory sticks, creating a cheaper and heftier amount of storage in your PSP. I know a guy that did this trick with a 2 gig ericson memory stick made for a phone. Trust me on this. I don’t have anything against older emulations. But i do believe that the ripping of UMD’s and memory stick hacking will, in fact, bring sony’s prosper with the PSP to an end.

I have had a psp for about 2 months now and i have version 1.5, i do pirate umd games, i do hack my psp, and i do it because i can. i also buy the games if i like them. 80% of the people that own a psp do not know nor desire to “hack” it. did anyone else notice all the small hacks and little tricks that were made for version 1.5 sony put in the 2.0 version (except umd rips and emulation support) which i believe isn’t a coincidence. to many people are worried about sony stoping the production of the psp because of hacking.. the possibilities of what this thing can do are by far not even close to toping off.. trust me.. a few hackers aren’t gonna shut down sony.. sony owns everything the psp requires to work..
I bought a PSP and some original games the other day, but only because I knew I could mod it and copy games to memory.
I will still buy games as and when I can afford them and run copies as well, Being able to run pirated games doesnt make me buy any less games.
If there was no money to be made by making video games, music or films because of pirating then no-one would bother making them.
Some of you people need a life! A good deal of you seem like normal people but there are a handful that need to rethink some stuff.
a)Would you hand out your games to people for free? Hell no! It’s the same or SONY.
b)Whats the argument about emulation of older consoles? If theyre no longer made then the companies aren’t losing money, just people on eBay who lose out on sales! (whooptiedoo)
c)Hackers are not going to take over the world through a handheld. So what if a few people hack a few games, look at how long the Playstation lasted and how sucessful it was, it was the big explosion of chipping and ripping games, they didn’t stop making it, they re-released a smaller one! Sony will not stop making the PSP!

This is a reply to Matt, on the topic of the 2 inch screens mainly, Im not even sure if you’ll see this but first of all, why do you even care about what people spend they’re money on when you dont even know them? Secondly, either you’re THE biggest dumbass I know, your exagerating, or your getting mixed up with the GBA Micro, but the screens are far from 2 inch, they are (from memory) approximatley 3 inches tall by 4.5 inches wide, its really no different from looking at a mini dvd player in a car. Third, if your really all that concerned with what people do with they’re money, then maybe you should go out and stop everyone from hiring hookers, all they are really doing is paying a few hundred (usually more than the psp) for some likely diseases. Therefore the points you have made are quite apparently biased, had you stuck to facts and lost the attitude, you may have convinced me that the psp is not that great, but you sound like someone that doesnt want to do any work and is now angry that you dont have one and others do, me I worked for mine at about $3.75 an hour. Im not a lazy tempermental like you. However i do beleive i’ve rambled long enough and I shall take my leave. You should reconsider your ideals.
i got my psp working with loads of copied games. im not planning to spend another penny on umds, i chipped my ps2 for the same reason. also its really easy to get hold of the copied games, go to isohunt.com and get the torrents for the iso of any game then get a loader from psp hacks.com and there you have it, its really that simple, dont pay for it!!! its all freeeeeee which is making my psp never leave my hands. EVER accept to write this message of course. back to ridge racers.
the UMDs only work on your memory stick if your operating version is 1.5 you can only get 1.5 PSPs if you get it imported from Japan. I know this for a fact because i had one imported. The PSPs are very hard to get the games on in total i only managed to get 1 games on the memory card.

I for one support the emulation of older systems, because who is really forgoing buying a NES game because they can emulate it on their PSP. However I do not support the ripping of PSP games. Because sony subsidises the hardawre and counts on software sales for income from the PSP the use of ripping wil lead to reduced development for the PSP, both from a hardware nd software angle.
