Nintendo DS additional details, PSP Japanese pricing and speculation.

Additional details we should know.
Nintendo DS Battery life: 6 to 10 hours depending on usage. (The 6 hour figure factors in with the WiFi wireless use. Aside from that, the normal battery usage is similar to the usage figure of a GBA SP with the front light on.)
Additional embedded software: Touch Screen Calibration program, internal clock with time, date, and alarm functions. (Similar to a PDA. We can only hope the alarm has something to match the NGPC’s original dancing dog.)
Size: (Closed) 5.85 inches (148.7mm) wide, 3.33 inches(84.7mm) long, and 1.13 inches(28.9mm) tall. (I have a particularly nasty joke to make about that, but I will refrain as we are a semi-family friendly website and we raps for the shorties.)
USA Today announced that the Nintendo DS will have Metroid Prime Hunters as a Pack-In game at no additional charge. I advise everyone to stay calm. That dizzy feeling will go away very shortly.
That seems to be it on additional Nintendo DS information. Now onto PSP breaking news from their pre-Tokyo Game Show bit!

Sony announced a Japanese price of 33,000 Yen for the Sony PSP. (Roughly $316 USD) More than double the price of the Nintendo DS. Sony neglected to announce the launch date for the PSP or the battery life. Maybe they will reveal more details as the Tokyo Game Show begins? Should be an interesting (if not one-sided) handheld race in Japan this Christmas. The announced price places the fully-loaded PSP into the high end of electronic devices. Careful when importing as the PSP uses Region Coding for its games. Expect the price to drop slightly before the US launch next year. That seems to be it for now. If anything else pops up, we will let you know, dear readers!

Well, checking back -knew I should have bought that copy of USA Today. Although 75 cents is too much for the content it provides- it appears that the game is called: Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt. That sounds like it would -indeed- be a demo of the game. Wow. That may be the first time Nintendo -or anyone- has released playable demo software for a portable system. I guess DS games ARE that cheap to make. If Nintendo started releasing DS demo titles inside Nintendo Power, I would revive my subscription in a heartbeat.
which is the best portable console to invest? the nintendo ds or the psp?
people say that it is best to purchased the nintendo ds because there is a lot of developers for nintendo than psp and the price is low compare to psp so im confuse. i really want to purchased and wait for the upcoming psp. they say is good to buy the nintendo ds i do need you guys opinion on this and i really appreciate a lot thanks..
The other sites said that the metroid Prime Hunters is just a demo that will let you go through a few levels and try out the multiplayer feature.
gihkgk,seriously,you’re breaking my balls,OK?The DS,which is only $150,has a long battery life,two screens,awesome games,a touch screen,wireless linking,and a kickass design,is like a god compared to the PSP,a stupid little,gecko rapeing piece of shit,that OOO GOODY,plays movies (OH JOY!) which is definately not the point of buying a video game for,it probably runs on quarters (HEY MOMMY LOOK!THERES ANOTHER WAY FOR SONY TO RIP THE MONEY FROM MY HANDS!),and not to mention that it looks like something you could find at McDonalds in a Happy Meal.The DS isn’t cheap because it sucks,its cheap because Nintendo is generous.However,the PSP is so damn expensive because Sony wants it to seem even semi-decent.If you want to feel the PSP experience,buy an NES,you stupid leprechaun.Have I made my point clearer?So go ahead and be a dumb Captain Douche,or get the DS.Live your life knowing you’ll never be happy,or get the DS.I’m out.Peace mutha fuzucka.
yo listen mrs.randy the sony ps2 was the best seller in the world okay cause it had good ass games out there not like nintendo gamecube nintendo has some kitty ass games,
the psp is the bomb because it going to have more bettr grphics cause it graphics synthesizer 3 somthin

graphics dont make the game you stupid mother fucker. making the game feel new and designing the way its played makes the game better! ASSMUNCH.
as a fan of the PS2, Sony doesnt know SHIT about making portable gaming.
Moving Parts = Easier to break
More features = Easier to Break
Big Screen, no cover = TOO EASY TO BREAK
Get a DS. and play games like youve never played them before. And close the clamshell to PROTECT YOUR INVESTMENT.
yo listen ya people psp is better because its gonna have better games, graphics and gameplay.and nintendo has kitty games if your saying nintendo is better then why dont they have games like gta sa,halo2,and other best seller games,
and your saying that it doesnt matter by the graphics hello this is the 21st century you dum shit,even tech tv said that buy ps2 cause its ganna have better gameplay and graphics.and also your saying nintendo’s better cause its cheap your saying that cause your poor you asshole dum diposhit fuckin poor cheap basterd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THAT WAS TO ALL THE SONY FANS LIKE ROMAN WELL NOT ALL OF THEM ONLY THE ONES THAT THINK PSP IS BETTER
yo listen punk, give some reasons that sony psp sucks,and learn how to spell you freackin blind poor basterd
hmmm thats funny… because i dont recall the DS being able to play mp3s, movies, or have a slideshow of your pictures right at hand… or at that having a 4:3 inch display… or even processing power equal to the PS2… and might i remind you that the Gamecube doest even compare to the PS2… and its for kids…
Play movies, MP3s, and slideshow pictures in my hand? I can do that with my GBA and -thanks to the aftermarket- on the Nintendo DS as well.
So, you can lug around a PSP and enjoy playing MP3s off of a 32 megabyte Memory Stick Duo. Yip Yip Yahoo. Wow, that’s about ONE CD album at 64kbps. Hardly iPod competition or for that matter firm-set MP3 player competition. I’ve seen firm-set portable MP3 players that are the size of a GBA Game Pak that hold more than 128 Megabytes of space. The MSRP on a Memory Stick Duo that holds at least 1Gigabyte is upwardly of $169.95 to date. If you want to play music on the system, you’re better off just buying an iPod or an iPod Mini. Those also have no moving parts and are blessed with Apple’s customer service. hehe
As for movies? Can you rip your OWN movies and put them on a UMD to watch them? Oh, wait. YOU CAN’T. However, I can rip my own movies off of a DVD, and convert them for use on the GBA Movie Player and watch them right now. Just takes a little time. It is definately worth it though. I can sit down and watch Cowboy Bebop on the go if I want, while Sony PSP UMD viewers are limited to whatever Sony decides to put on that format. Which rules out all Disney movies, anime, and independent films. So, you can enjoy watching Stuart Little 2 while I’ll just sit back and watch Rahxephon, GTO, Hellsing, or Azumanga Diaoh. I can even convert SWF Flash files for use on the go. So, I can choose between Broken Saints, Homestar Runner, or Ill Will Press if I desire.
The PSP has processing power equal to the PS2 at the price of never being able to use it. The current generation and future generations of PSP games are limited to being right below Game Cube and PS2 in terms of graphic output. Because the resolution is smaller than a true TV display, they can fudge the graphics to make them look better. However, Sony removed the ability to link it to a TV for viewing because on a real television, the resolution fudges become way to evident.
The Game Cube in terms of output is still superior to the PS2. As for the kids arguement? Games are for kids and adults. You either hit both demographics or you hit neither demographic. To that extent, are games like Ape Escape more for adults than games like Feel the Magic XX/XY or Sprung? In all fairness, people who say a system is just for kids are too immature to know the difference between the demographics.
One more thing about the PSP. It is not a sturdy system at all. Sony is taking all the precautions they can, but the system is still fragile. When you finally spend your saved allowance to get one, you’ll see what I mean.
Please use better arguements when you attempt to express your opinion on this site. Just rememeber that if you use slack judgement, I will destroy you. Have a nice day!
Amen, PSP will eat The Nintendo DS like a side order of fries. The only way most people will even give a The DS a 2nd look is if the price was 100 us now. Not only does it have better games(not just that its for a more mature audience) but it has higher sound quality, better graphics, better game play(I mean, wth is up with that touch screen crap anyways?) and better graphics, and it only costs about 30 us more, the PSP will take over, similar to how playstation did a couple years ago.
First let me say that some of you have horrible spelling. Do you realize that a kitty is a cat? I believe the word you were looking for is kiddy. However, I disagree with you. People who say Nintendo is kiddy are just looking to make people mad and do not have real experience with a Gamecube or any other nintendo console.
Here are some games that I have for my gamecube,
TigerWoods 2004
Madden 2003
NCAA 2003
Metroid Prime
007 Everything or Nothing
007 Nightfire
Timesplitters 2
Prince of Persia
Burnout 2
The Sims
I find it hard to call any of these games kiddy. I do have mario golf and it’s very enjoyable even if it does look cartoonish.
I honestly fear that the PSP will win over the DS just because of all the fanboys out there.
If you cannot admit the innovations on the DS then you are immature. The touch screen will allow many new ways to play games.
The graphics on the DS may not be as good as the PSP but they are not far behind. And the graphics on the Gamecube are definitely better than the PS2.
It is ignorant to call someone poor because they do not have hundreds of dollars to shell out on games. Some of us live on our own and pay bills, rent, electricity, phone bills, food, car insurance. Try living in the real world and still being able to buy every single game you want. It’s not always possible. The problem is that some of you are so spoiled by having parents who give you everything and you have no real bills or pressures on you. Gaming is a hobby and is meant to be fun. Fun should determine what system you buy.
If you have any valid arguements or opinions then list them here but stop dropping the F word every 2 seconds because it does not make you sound intelligent.
I do think the PSP will be a powerful handheld and will have Sony’s marketing power behind it. Nintendo’s main problem is that they are so stubborn and unwilling to cater to their audience. But they DO make games that are fun to play.
Also, if you ask a majority of supermodels, football cheerleaders, any type of girl you feel like impressing… ask her what she thinks of guys who play video games and she will most likely say they are loser. Why argue about who is more of a loser than the other guy. Have fun with your Playstation and I’ll have fun with my Nintendo.
also, the PSP will be more expensive in the long run because the games are going to be about $20 more and you will have to spend close to $100 just to be able to save your games. Tell me that’s not ridiculous. So now your system is running more like $300.00 compared to nintendo’s $150.
oh man, I’m over 18. Guess I’m too old to be glaming over the internet. I’ll go back to playing my GP32 now.
All i have to say is that sony is going to have to better in order to get good sales the psp is without a doubt a beatiful piece of gaming hardware with amazing graphics and a joystic but dud whos going to play a hand held that costs 50 bucks a game witch is what it will cost with the memory card and they havn’t shown us any good games so the ultimit truth is it will suck with out a better batery life or better game
Wow. I stand in awe at the incoherence of that last post, but I have become quite used to that sort of thing on the internet. I feel bad for being able to comprehend it so completely. I just felt like I would make a glibe comment on that previous post, and will now return to a state of ruffled taciturne composure.
all i have to say is you dont need to look at all the reviews for the ds and psp you can just come to this website and get all the info you want. anyways the ds has so many things you will be able to do with it just think the ds has a voice mic a dual screen wifi compatible and a system that you can talk to your friends on. Ok lets say that you dont know any1 in your area with a ds well if you ds is turned off or sleeping it will automatically wake up and sense a ds in that same area i mean seriously how cool is that! and on top of that they have some pretty kick a** games coming out. You also in the future will be able to use the ds for an internet browser and/ or chatting service like msn messenger or aim or yahoo. This handheld not a console a HANDHELD has so much stuff to fool with and to touch! And look at the price of it 150 and the games around 30 you cant get better than that. the psp on the other hand has 4-6 hours of battery life when the ds has 8-12 hours of battery life. The psp will cost about 300 dollars with the games about 50 or 55 dollars and memory cards for about 50 dollars just look at those prices compared to the ds aand if you cant afford the psp and you really like it well thats ok the ds is so much better i can tell you that for sure ive tried both of the systems and man does the psp take forever to load! well you playstation people who want to stay with playstation you might want to reconsider for more info go to http://www.ign.com or http://www.nintendo.com
yo people listen remeber when the first ps came out the big bulky gray ps,then after 2or3 years i think the small ps1 came out that was the redisgned one so after that ps2 came out and after 2or 3 years today the new redisned ps2 cameout much more smaller and more skinnier, so what i mean is that when the psp comes out then after 2 or 3 years they gonna redesign it but sony will never stop doin that on the ps consoles
yes i know spell like a brain dead four year old thats been drinkin beer but give me a break and who is this eric with a . (eric.) come on dont post my name
somebody said sony will eat nintendo like a side order of fries? wonder where that flawed logic was attained from. seriously, nintendo has always been the biggest software giant ever, only one short 6 month period of time in the past 13 something years have they been less then 1st, (2nd). konami has always been 2nd, also. come to think of it, i dont even think scej or any sony developer has ever been on the list of top 10. considering this, and considering nintendo’s dominance of the handheld market, i think its safe to say that sony should just feel lucky to get a 1 to 4 consumer ratio, VERY lucky and privileged. However, the psp will still be cool, and i will still be getting one. because, unlike this “sonywillalwaysrulenintendo” douchebag (who obviously doesnt know what hes talking about) will believe, its not the sales that matter to the gamer, its the GAMES.
Interesting that half of you people use big words and no capital letters in any of your sentences, and expect that to show some sort of credibility on your part. That really makes me laugh.
The PSP is going to be a much bigger success than Nintendo. Nintendo has successfully taken games that rule from various software companies (Square-Enix especially comes to mind) and turned the name into trash. Remember Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicals? What a disappointment… They should have let Sony do that one. And what a waste of time and money. Nintendo loves wrecking games with good names. Even Zelda is starting to slowly fall into disarray… When have we last heard any updates on the new game? Not since E3 2003, which is extremely sad.
The PSP will truly own, and will sport an amazing number of software companies working to develope it’s games. That number is currently soaring into the hundreds. They have all sorts of titles coveted for this new generation of ownage. What does the DS have? A touch-screen. Wow. HEY! I have one of those at the cashier till at work! WOW! New Technology! Not… Sorry, not interested in a remake of Mario 64 with a touch-screen. I’d rather be able to play games, listen to my music, connect to my home LAN and the Internet, store my save data on the computer in my folder, and a few other things I don’t really have time to mention right now, since I’m at school. My point is, the PSP is the next generation of hand-held gaming consoles, not the DS. It is just a souped up Gameboy Advance with an extra screen. And it is really clonky, and looks like a rectangular box. Unlike the sleek design of the PSP, which is ownage I might add, the DS is going to be going down the drain, where all the rest of the bullshit lurks in waiting… It’ll join the ranks of Sega Saturn, 32X, Sega CD, the Megasystem, the GameGear, and the like. Especially the GameGear, it doesn’t look that much different in size or shape in fact…
But anyway, the PSP owns, and the DS sucks ass. Since I’m never posting here, or even CHECKING here again in my life-time, feel free to flame me. I’m walking away knowing I had the final say, as a “say” requires both sides of an argument, and my side is walking out the door forever now.
See you later. Those who get a DS will be cursed, and those who get a PSP will live in paradise. Those who get both… Well, they’re okay. As long as they have the PSP.
i think this brass retard’s foolishness will be well known here come end of next year. nintendo has dominated software sales unopposed for over 13 years, and has smashed opponents like nokia, snk, sega, and atari who even dare to enter the handheld business. this brass guy is talking out of his ass, also - judging by his basis - he knows nothing of the industry. he sais - “I have one of those at the cashier till at work!”, and its shocking, i wouldnt have guessed you to be in the grocery business, or, are you upgrading to fast food?
Put simply the ds and the psp are fighting for the same ground. But are aimed at different markets at the end of the day the reason i am buying a psp instead of a ds is simple they have more going for them gps,wi-fi,phone,camera,video and music playback, oh and before i forget games which are at the same level as ps2 games (128 bit). The ds on the other hand does games and only in 64 bit. I think the psp wins by far. Oh and there is only a very small price difference only a £100 (about)for a psp £80 for a ds.
what i dont understand is why people choose either. then they give this completely assenine reasons such as the ones you stated (the psp is 128 bit and the ds is 64, yadda yadda yadda). technology and extra features dont make a system, just ask nokia. as for how anybody can doubt the quality of nintendo games is beyond me, but what i do know, is that they will both kick ass, and i will get both…
wait wait WAIT… brass boy said this “Even Zelda is starting to slowly fall into disarray… When have we last heard any updates on the new game? Not since E3 2003, which is extremely sad”
they actually announced a completely new zelda title at E3, and its quite amazing looking, its not cel-shaded, it makes very good use of bump mapping, quite frankly its beautiful. no new updates on zelda since e3 03? surely, you meant 04? or, were you just that far out of the loop of knowledge as to have missed that (massive news)…
I hate to admit when Charlie is right (just because he lets it get to his head), but he is. Zelda will be coming to the cube in a BIG way next year. Also, a new Zelda title, The Minnish Cap, will be available for GBA soon. Rumors of DS Zelda title are still just rumors. But rumors I hope will solidify.
The DS is actually a better choise because the is power is probably longer, the games are better gameplay, it has a double screen game system, and a newly designed voice activation system, that basically lets you comand your games vocally, and it lets you talk to other DS members outloud. I vote for the DS hands down, because all the PSP has, is graphics. Whoop-dee-doo. I fart in the PSP’s general direction , then piont my genitals at it. O######()=================> I am now deciding whether to buy Metriod hunters or the other great Double Screen games, OH well, I’ll buy ‘em all.
technology doesnt make a system.. come on now, 3DO and CD-i taught us that. teh games make the system. anywho - the ds’s launch line-up will be pretty weak, the only one i think thats worth getting is super mario 64… metroid hunters will not be a launch title, you should expect that between january and march, when all the really kick-ass titles should be arriving.
TWO DAYS PEOPLE! TWO DAYS! I CANT WAIT! hey jason why dont you update youre news info with some release, or, uhm, well, some launch-title special. do like, a kind of preview of all the games for ds being released at launch. might be good
Cant you dumb fucks spell or something? How hard is it to use just a bit of grammer?
I hope Sony and Nintendo don’t keep redesigning their systems, like the slim PS2 and GBA SP
Wow, quite a heated debate we have going here. It’s amazing how much these comments remind me of the Penny-Arcade comic where the two retards are about to knife fight over game systems? As far as Mr. Brass up there goes, posting your opinion and running away does not count as “the last say” I bought the DS and I have to say, amazed, does not even begin to describe my reaction to it. Metroid Prime Hunters is amazing, and anyone who doubts the usefullness of the touch screen should try playing a first person shooter using it. I never bought first person shooters for my console because of the inability to am, but the DS blows that problem away.
As far as the PSP having phone, mp3 player, bla bla. The N-Gage had a phone, and we all know it did well.
Why are you people argueing over whether the PSP or the DS will be the better handheld, their both good in their own way. Arguing over which one is better is not going to make either handheld any better.
Oh another thing, who cares which sells more or makes the most money, SOny and Nintendo will be the ones making the money not any of you.
Buying video game systems, and handhelds is a bit like American politics. There are only a few key differences between Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, Constitutionalists, Communists, Progressives, Socialists, etc. However, which one wins the race determines the future of the country.
This is true in the video game industry. If Nintendo had not won against the old gaurd Atari back in the 1980’s… games as we know it would cease to exist. After Bushnell had given up his shares in favor of pursueing his Chuck E. Cheez and Showbiz Pizza chains, Atari changed leadership many times, under Kassar Atari flourished, but bled money out like a dying Monopoly board. Finally the company underwent more changes and when Nintendo was arriving onto the scene, Atari was in the hands of former Commodore bigwigs intent on converging the Atari market to compete with the C64 and the home computer industry. This took focus off of what was important, making quality games. Before the big fall, Atari did everything they could to flood the market with games and in doing so caused backlash after backlash from consumers who were giving up on over-priced & crappy games.
I am throwing my hat in with Nintendo for the long run because the other big 2 (Microsoft and Sony) are not video game makers. They’re a home electronics maker and a cuththroat PC software maker. Neither of their business plans for the future and present are conducive to long term success in the video game market. They seem intent on trying to draw in other markets, instead of focusing on what’s important: VIDEO GAMES. Not movies, not music.
I really don’t care if you can put a PS3 chip in your refridgerator. How does that help me enjoy a video game? Do I have to save the princess before I can get a damn beer?
I also don’t care about being able to see DUST PARTICLES, if it means that I have to download patches for a game to get it to work. I think the popular quote is: “If you have to patch a game you just bought to get it to work, you have bought nothing.”
See what I’m saying? A lot of people dislike Nintendo because they don’t understand Nintendo. They think: “Oh, that Mario is such a kiddy game” or “What do you mean, touch the screen?” Nintendo innovates. They design new ways to do things. Seriously, touch screens are nothing new. But can you play a game like “Feel the Magic” on a Palm Pilot? Nope! Can you play Doom 3 with two screens, where the screen displaying your map can also be used to control your game and select items by just touching it ala Minority Report? Nope. (But damn.. I wish I could.) Nintendo is where I cast my vote, because they have the most radical innovations, the best franchises, and -in the end- the best plan.
nice debate guys, from reading the whole forum in one sitting it is clear that the ds is a better choice of the two handhelds. i am definitely going to buy a ds although living in australia it isn’t avilable for some time. im looking forward to playing games differently, a touch screen is awesome.
nintendo arent new to the innvation scene-they created 3d gaming along with many countless games and harware.
I know this is a handheld site but I have to say that I love Nintendo. The other day my friend was over and we were up till 3:00 in the morning playing Mario golf. There is this mode on there called club slots where a slot machine picks what 3 clubs you get to use on that whole… it’s just a different kind of fun that you can’t get while playing something like Tiger Woods. Anyways, I like most of the Nintendo exclusive games/franchises (Zelda, Metroid, Mario). You don’t get any better than that. So when I get my DS I’ll be thrilled (especially when Nintendo gets some more software out there). I’m hoping to get one for Christmas, if not I’ll just have to buy one myself.
I think the psp is crap compared to the ds. But then again it is kinda like the first gameboy it had never been done before. I just dont think it can compete with the ds.
if i had my ds hooked up right now i would draw you a picture of you eating it, laugh, and send it to this site
youre right broskie, ds all the way. doggie froogie, spagetie and sweedish meatballs, oh delosocioo, ayyat late
just get them both and call it cool. i think nintendo’s and nintendo’s game development ambitions and motives are more genuine than sony’s, and, as such, this will tend to produce a better product. but in the end - even if sony has just a few good games on the system - wont it be worth it? i mean, with developers like konami, its not liek the psp could suck.
OK loser have any of you played the PSP. no i didet think so .. shut ur fucking mouth till it the 12th wan it ships out. The PSP is the hardcore gamer not the DS. the DS is for kidy Nintendo made there money on SuperMario ok it was a good game but y make it for DS mario 64 only kids play that shit u dont see any mario for the PSP pr PS2 AND the PSP out stands the DS in Specs LOOK at MY LINK……
Wow… looks like someone has some self-esteem problems. It doesn’t matter if the game is “kiddy”, as long as it has good gameplay, who cares? Oh wait, you do. While the PSP does have the better specs (Except for its lack luster battery life), and that screen sure is beautiful, it does not mean that the DS is any less of a system. I can expect some pretty sweet graphics on it (Metroid Hunters) and some innovative gameplay, that no matter how good the graphics, could not be reproduced on the PSP.
OK do u know the battry life HUH find me where it seds it and wait it has the same bettry as the DS and the DS it about 6-10 hrs whit the duble screen so really it cant be much diffent
try reading.
http://www.portagame.com/sony_psp.php/2004/10/28/psp_pipedream_a_little_less_piped
4-6 hours.
I’ll be getting a DS.
O i never sed that i hate Nintendo this comment is only whit the DS VERSING the PSP i owned a the frist Nintendo, super nintendo i had a 65 and all the gameboys thats all the past see the this iswhy im going whit the PSP it seds 4 to 6 hrs the litheum bettry rechargs just a little evey time it be on and trunerd off so ur not going to play a PSP or a DS for 6 strate hrs i mean come on maby the DS last longer but look at the size of it if the PSP was the size of the DS of cuse it would have more battry life ya know see im buying the PSP becors maby i dont wanna play games maby i wanna hear some music or do ete it dose whit the DS its big if u dont have like a big or some thing to put it in its pritty big in ur pocket..
and the duel screen are hot but the wireliss mgs is shit 100 feet i can like walk to the person. wait till the PSP comes out there going to start makeing programs for the pc for it and than its going to start truning into a in to a pc right now whit its specs its right on the rode
and aother thing look at the graphics on the game Ridge Racer DShttp://www.gamespot.com/ds/driving/ridgeracerds/screenindex.html
than look at the graphic on Ridge Racer for the PSP http://media.psp.ign.com/media/682/682967/imgs_1.html
Like I said, the PSP has far better graphics. But that is also one of the lower end DS games. The battery life is sub par if I want to watch a movie and play games. I am going to order the GBA movie player, so now I can watch up to 10 hours of video, right on my DS. Also, the wireless on the PSP isn’t going to be better than the DS, because most computer wi-fi cards don’t go farther than 100 feet. Also, I have heard for graphically intensive games on the PSP, along with the wi-fi on, the battery life can shorten to 2-4 hours. Don’t worry, I’m not trying to argue over graphics, becuase the PSP is head and shoulders above the DS (Though it isn’t like the Ds’s graphics are that bad) but we are looking at the system overall. Another good thing aobut the DS, is that is uses cartridges, which means more power, and no loading. Though this sacrifices the memory space, as the PSP UMD can hold more space than a DS cartdridge.
that is all tru. but once that PSP come out and it im pritty sure there going to bring out a new and better battry
Sure the graphics for that game are way better on the PSP than the DS, but might I also point out this is a gaming website. We like to play games here.
Racing games? Come on! I can play those in an arcade or at the bowling alley. Lame!
I want inovation.
If I am going to watch a movie I’ll watch it on my 32 inch flatscreen tv, not some 7 inch number.
Sony well come out whit much better titles like in 2 mothes the PSP will hit it big just liek the ps2. look at the gamecube games are OK but no mach for the ps2. it will be the some whit the PSP im teilling u Nintendo well have to come out whit a new handhel just watch. the PSP is for the hardcore gamers and Nintendo haslike all cartoon games of cors its for a kid just like the gamecube more kids under the age of 15 bought the gamecube
Ape Escape, Parappa the Rapper, everything on the Eye Toy, the list of games for the PS2 aimed at younger kids goes on and on. After all, it IS a “kiddie” system according to people with no sense of spelling.
Anyone who still uses the “Nintendo is only for kids” arguement must have either been dropped on the head several times, or are the product of what happens when brothers and sisters screw each other.
Im just saying take some time into look at the PSP read the spects i know its like 300 bucks but it will be better than the DS trust me.
When I buy a system, I base it on how many games are coming out for it that I want. After all, processing power and graphics are nothing if the games are neither interesting or fun. I have yet to find five titles I want for the PSP. I like RPGs and the list of RPGs for the DS is a lot longer than the one for the PSP. The PSP has a port of Tales of Eternia with nothing extra added. Big whoop-dee-do. Now, Before Crisis on the PSP could be interesting. However, SquareEnix has more RPGs and game series coming to the DS than the PSP. See what I’m saying?
Also, Sony exaggerates their specs to ridiculous levels. Remember when the PS2 was coming out and they said you could launch missiles with it? A lot of the specs look nice on paper, but fantastic graphics mean all of jack-nothing in a bad game. You compared Ridge Racers (A brand new game) to Ridge Racer DS (A rushed port of an N64 game) as an example of the PSP being “better.” Here’s a suggestion: Go compare the PSP game Death Jr. in terms of graphics to -say- Rayman DS. There’s really nothing in Death Jr. that currently stands above anything in Rayman DS and judging from the other software on the PSP, I’ll be playing through the first level of Rayman DS before the first level of Death Jr is even loaded.
Well im the the PSP cuz of the one thing u sed i like more game that are comeing out for it. The PSP will come out whit more game its not like there doing to have non the fucking thing ant even out yet just wait till it comes out. i mean comes out in the USA. i just bough it on pre oder i ill will be geting on the 18th im not fighting becuse i dont like Nintendo i just what to say whats the better handhel..
Yes, I’m sure, that the PSP, which will start selling in the US in April/May will be a huge hit, as compared to the Nintedo DS, which came out in the holiday shopping season, and has several monthes of a head start. Unless the PSP’s price is low, I don’t expect the PSP to sell even close to the numbers the DS sells.
An mp3 player is good in my eyes too. Which is why I’m not “cheap” and bought a portable hard drive player, the Rio Karma. I’m also going to purchase a GBA movie player, so that I can watch movies on the DS. So really, any advantage the PSP, is pretty much eliminated. The only thing I really love about it, is its beautiful screen and graphics.
ya thats thu tho but look at this whit the movis player on DS that its going to be so big i mean and i dont think ur going to watch movies on it wan ur home ya know
True, but this is when your on a car trip or on an airplane. Just like the PSP, its when you want to kill some time. After that, amybe play a game or two. It just helps make it a better multimedia device. Its not like this video device would replace my computer or tv or anything.
see i think sony is trying to make the PSP like a PDA soon there will be programs to DL on to it im telling thay want to make it so people keep it on tham alot and thing the mamory cards u can buy like a 1gb of memory and DL a full DVD or put music than u can have a other stick whit maby more songs or movies cuz the memory sticks or small its going to cost but whit all this alot more older people will buy it.
not really i DL DVDs from the PC at about 500,000MB-700,000 pluse u format it to the PSP which makes it smaller and i will have more than one DUO
and lets say you only have one DUO ur not going to keep a movie on there all the time say ur going some were in a car befor u leve put it on as ez as that
I don’t know Ant, it seems that the DS, with its clock, calender, and touchscreen, are closer to a PDA than the PSP. Also, some companies are releasing some software applications that fit on the DS’s cartdridge and would have more advance PDA functions.
Charlie: a standard single layer DVD is only about 9GBs. Most movies use less than that. Example: Spider-Man (The first movie) only takes up 4GBs. So, 1/4th of a DVD movie could fit -uncompressed- on a 1GB card. Don’t confuse 1GB with 1gb. 1GB is 1 Gigabyte. 1gb is 1 Gigabit. 8 bits = 1 byte.
Ant: 500,000MB is 500 Gigabytes. I think you mean 500,000KB for 500 Megabytes. *laughs* There’s no way in Hell that you’re downloading half a Terabyte sized movies. Although what you do download is most likely in DiVX or XviD format and not in the MP4 format the PSP reads. If you encode that to what the PSP can actually read, that 500MB movie balloons to about 1GB.
1,000B = 1KB (Kilobytes)
1,000KB = 1MB (Megabytes)
1,000MB = 1GB (Gigabytes)
1,000GB = 1TB (Terabytes)
The PSP uses two types of compression for movies. You can either buy a movie in UMD format. (Sony chooses what makes it to the format.) Or you can encode the movie into the format the PSP can read, which is an MP4 compression, and put it on the stick. MP4 compression is excellent quality, but not small by any stretch of the imagination. If you want to have a good quality movie on the unit, be prepared to shell out for a 1GB memory stick duo. The cheapest I have seen those for online is almost $200. Not too shabby a price there. Shelling out $200+ for a PSP and then shelling out almost $200 for a 1GB MStick Duo means that you’ll have spent almost $400 before you even get a GAME for the system.
If I want to watch a movie right now on my GBA SP, I would spend this:
$70 for a GBA SP.
$25 for the GBA Movie Player
$70 for a 1GB Compact Flash Card.
That figures up to $165. or $235 less than what it would cost me to to do the same thing on the PSP.
Then there’s the kicker. A 1GB Memory Stick Duo would only be able to hold around 2 to 2 and a half hours of movie footage. That would be: 150 Minutes. Not too bad, although the battery life on the PSP with the volume at half and the screen at a visible setting, cuts the battery life to 2 hours or only 120 minutes. Neat. In the GBM format, a 1GB card could hold 480 minutes at STANDARD quality. That is four times the minutes that the 1GB Memory Stick Duo could hold. Like I stated about the movie player a long time ago. For my example: A person with a PSP and a GBA SP could sit down and watch Spider-Man 2. Then after the movie was over, the GBA SP user could watch it AGAIN without having to go recharge their batteries. In fact, the GBA SP user could watch the movie three or four times in a ROW before they would need to plug in their system and recharge. Oh, yeah. The GBA Movie player works in the Nintendo DS as well.
Back onto the subject of games. What are your five games you want for the PSP? Just wondering.
The DS games I wanted, that made me by the system are as follows.
1. Final Fantasy III
2. Wario Wario Touched!
3. Mario Kart DS Curcuit
4. Super Mario 64 DS
5. Feel the Magic XY/XX
6. Xenosaga (Yes, kinderflugen, Xenosaga.)
7. Survival Kids DS
8. Harvest Moon DS
9. Jam with the Band
10. Shonen Jump All Stars
11. Advance Wars DS
12. Yoshi’s Touch & Go
13. Ridger Racer DS
14. Datel’s DS Organizer
15. Ultimate Card Games
16. Seiken Densetsu DS
17. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
18. Baten Kaitos
19. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl
20. Metroid Prime Hunters
21. Fire Emblem DS
22. Cadeceus
23. Castlevania DS
24. Viewtiful Joe
25. The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords
26. Animal Crossing DS
27. Kirby DS (I love those sill tenative names…)
28. Bomberman DS
29. Mega Man Battle Network DS
30. Meteos
31. That un-named Game Arts RPG.
32. The un-named Marvelous RPG
33. Another
34. Need for Speed Underground
35. Dynasty Warriors
36. Goldeneye: Rogue Agent (Should be better than the console versions because of the engine it’s using. Essentially, new game…. old engine. Hey, last game to use that engine was Perfect Dark.)
37. Vandal Hearts
38. Boktai
39. Monster Farm
40. Dragon Warrior Monsters
41. That un-named game Team Ninja is working on. I hope it’s fighter. hehehe.
42. Bleach
43. The new Mario Bros. DS title. (Essentially, Super Mario Bros. 5.)
44. Super Princess Peach (Hey, I like sidescrollers. So there.)
45. Moonlight Fables
46. The game Blizzard refuses to tell us what it is although way to many of us have already guessed it.
47. Puyo Pop Fever. (Eight Players at once! Not so bad since only ONE person needs to own the game to do that.. as compared to two players ONLY on the PSP, and both have to own the game.)
48. Rayman DS
49. Sonic DS
50. Mario Tennis
The list goes on after that. So, I really just need five. Go ahead and list your five PSP games you want that made you HAVE to buy the system. Oh, I suggest you don’t list movies. I’ll be buying Advent Children on DVD, then ripping it to GBM format. If you need help, here’s my current list of PSP games I wanted.
1. Final Fantasy: Before Crisis
2. Ridge Racers
3. Wipe-Out
I was hyped for Metal Gear Ac!d.. until they announced it was a card game. -_- That knocked it off my list. Same with Armored Core. Hey, I HAD five at one time. List your five. Maybe it’s different.
Well said dmgice. Do you currently have the movie player and DS? Because I was wondering how well it looked. The video was suppose to be good on the GBA SP, though lik-sang said it looked even better on the DS. Also, I am doing the same thing with my video. I’m buying a $70 1GB card and the movie player. I could also use little 128mb CF cards I have lying around, to store 2 or 3 little TV shows I record on my computer. I’m sure this cannot be done on the PSP, because the format they use, while it has amzing quality, will limit the amount of videos you can store on a card. But then again, this doesn’t matter, because you wouldn’t go much farther than one movie with that 2 hour battery life for movies and advance 3D games.
And Metal Gear Acid lost half of its hype when I heard it was turn based. Looks like we are still one generation of handhelds away before we have amazing live action 3D games.
Yup. I do own a DS and the Movie Player. I just got a 4GB card for mine too. ^_^ Anyhow, the quality on the GBA SP is okay, but it’s easier to read fan-subtitles on the sharper DS screen. I think Office Depot has 1GB CF cards for as low as $64.95 I rounded up to an even $70 for my example.
Oh, the DS screen completely validates what we already knew: Castlevania: Circle of the Moon is really awesome looking. o_O Also, the newest games like Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories or DKC 2.. oh, yes! You’ll notice details on the DS screen you didn’t notice on a GBA SP screen.
As for amazing live action games? Hey, the NGage can do a decent Tomb Raider on an older -and less powerful- version of the ARM9. The DS has an ARM9e which is a better chip than the NGage one. I think both systems (DS, PSP) could do a port of the original Metal Gear Solid with enhanced graphics. The reason Metal Gear Ac!d is a turn based card game has to do with limiting the amount of loading the system has to do. The biggest liability on the PSP is that loading. When it loads or streams off of the UMD, it eats up battery life. Sony has already said they will reject any game that loads too often. I think a lot of the designers working on the DS are still stuck -mentally- in the GBA era. They don’t know they can push the envelope yet. I think some of the games that will be shown on the DS this E3 will definately jolt them awake. In other words, wait until you see Baten Kaitos, Xeonsaga, or some of the games currently being worked on. Oh, yeah. The PSP is actually starting out of the gate at as far as its potential will take it. I doubt programmers will be able to squeeze more out of that one’s specs. It’s like reving up to hit a wall. Where as the DS has a bit slower acceleration currently. When the DS programmers get their acts up to speed, you’ll be happy with the results.
500.000mb sry i DL movies that size its what fits u best im just saying the PSP will be able to do more than the DS
i really dont care the PSP is going to be better than the DS but u dick hard dont get than and whit the battry thay are make a new one thats will be 3 times better than this and why dont dont have than many game out cuz thay get all new develipers do what u want u poor fucks.
First, I suggest you buy a new keyboard Ant, because I don’t possibly think someones grammer and english could ever be that bad. But then again, I’m sure you would suprise me. The DS movie player isn’t that big, but then again, when you have to have a battery extender tied to your arm, to increase the PSP’s piss poor battery life, so that you can actually watch an entire film, you won’t be complaining much. Yes… I’m sure Sony is going to make a new battery. A battery can only last so long, its not like they can just make a better one, and expect it to fit right in the PSP. The battery would have to be bigger to even notice a larger difference in battery life. But why would they want to do that? I mean, they can sell $50 batteries to kids like you and me, just so those kids can watch a movie, play some music, and play a game or two without ahving to recharge. So yes, there is your solution, buy more batteries, make sure to recharge them all too, or else they won’t work when you need them. And yes, I’m so poor, I can only afford a Nintendo DS… its not like I’m spending a whole $200, so that I can combine all of these devices in one. Have fun listening to your mp3’s too, I will. I doubt you will be able to fit 20gb’s of music on your PSP. My Rio Karma can. Yes… I’m so poor I should start a foundation so I can further my gaming needs, and one day I might be able to buy a PSP.
I was on my bed whit a laptop there lol sry, ya man, but in japan people are going crazy for the PSP. Im just saying that the PSP will inprove. I know there are only like 10 games out but wait till the the PSP comes out and sets its standings. And whit the battry life that will chang. I i have pre oderd the PSP and i shud get it about my Xmas i now it cost a lot now but as time gos on it will drop to like 250 in stores in the US whit the music dose not waste much battry u can trun the screen into sleep and have a hold button on.
Im not looking to put more than 200 songs on. It takes about a 5 mins to put new songs on and i have a really good PC. You also can put pics and PSP have a cam to it and a keybored
it has more things than just gameing.it cost more cuz it has more and it will run more than 4 hr i will not beleve than intill i get it.
Well I suppose we will see exactly how good it is in the coming weeks. Though from some early reviews, I doubt little will change in my mind. Sure it has awesome graphics and a host of cool multimedia functions. But I ahve already several standalone devices that can do it 10 times better than Sony’s PSP ever will. One annoying thing about the PSP is the load times. On portable gaming we sure have taken for granted the no loading in games. The Nintendo has pretty awesome graphics (Just look at Metroid Hunters, which isn’t turn based, unlike Metal Gear Acid) and features innovative game functions. I have already seen some previews and demos of upcoming games, and the touchpad and two screens is going to change the way people play video games. First person shooters and realt time strategie games are going to play great on a portable for the first time. I don’t care how good the graphics are for the PSP, there is no way they could make a better RTS or FPS than one on the DS. That touchscreen will be more accurate than the PSP’s analog stick (Which is another downfall of the DS, since it only has a digital pad, but the touchscreen helps even the playing field). I really believe the PSP and DS are seperate markets. Nintendo is looking to innovate, while PSP is trying to rennovate. Thats not to say I don’t want both when they come out. Just that the DS looks like so much fun to play.
Also, dmgice, how does the normal video quality look on the DS? Is it worth it to watch a 2 hour film in normal quality? Or is the high setting worth trading off space? One alst thing, about how many movies can you fit on a 1gb card using the normal setting? What about the high setting? Thanks for your time!
what ever i dont care. u know what its what makes u happy. sony and xbox are much better than Nintendo. and whan the PS3 comes out say good buy to the DS Nintendo will make more systums just thay cant comepare to PS and XBOX so really do wtf u want all of u think u are so big i whit games and shit i had evey systum out from nintendo. and NO consol will ever beat a PC so FUCK ALL OF YOU im dun here.
Ant, I’m sorry if I offended you, but your the one who started throwing insults by calling people who buy the DS “poor”. I’m not some big Nintendo fan, because I like the XBox much better than the Gamecube. Really Nintendo and Sony are looking at different markets, people who want a multimedia device, and those who want a purly game only system, at a cheaper price.
The quality on the GBA Movie Player (Which is the size of a GBC/GB game cartridge. It’s not big at all) is better than those GBA Video Paks that Majesco sells in the USA and right up there with the Japanese AM3 Anime Video Paks. Live Action stuff looks the best on it, you really need to just mess around with the settings a bit to get it to your liking.
Here are the estimated minutes for each type of card.
High Quality (HQ): Dependant on the source file, this can be very sharp. I have the Halo 2 trailer on my GBA Player as an example of this. If I push pause at certain points, every detail on the Master Chiefs armor is visible. It’s sharp.) These estimates are a bit too modest for their own good in my opinion.
Standard Quality (SQ): Sometimes, there’s no difference what so ever between this and the HQ, but it depends on the source again. Live action stuff looks really good on this mode too, but some animated stuff suffers a little bit of aliasing. Again, that is dependant on source.
High Compression Quality (HCQ): Just slightly better than those GBA Video Paks from Majesco. Perfectly watchable though.
HQ
128MB = 12 Minutes
256MB = 25 Minutes
512MB = 50 Minutes
1GB = 100 Minutes
2GB = 200 Minutes
4GB = 400 Minutes
SQ
128MB = 60 Minutes
256MB = 120 Minutes
512MB = 240 Minutes
1GB = 480 Minutes
2GB = 960 Minutes
4GB = 1,920 Minutes
HCQ
128MB = 120 Minutes
256MB = 240 Minutes
512MB = 480 Minutes
1GB = 960 Minutes
2GB = 1,920 Minutes
4GB = 3,840 Minutes
These are fairly conservative estimates, and of course you will probably want to hold other things besides movies on the device, like photos, text files, music files, and umm.. “Home Brew NES files.” I have about 50+ umm.. “Home Brew NES files” on mine currently. Those are fairly tiny.
I do not think Ant deserves an apology, if we have offended him in any way. There are just some people who would rather debate on pure “emotion” and the amount of profanity they can use, instead of actual facts. He never gave me his five games and I am disappointed in him for that.
I think the PSP is going to be an interesting device and I will probably buy one once it fulfills my five game requirement. I have gotten to mess around with one at this last E3. I just wish Sony would cater to more than their base audience. The battery life is not competitive, the fragile nature of the device is not competitive, the features (Infra Red?) are not competitive, the game library is not competitive, the shipment plans are not competitive, the size is not competitive, and the list goes on. I’m almost inclined to say that the PSP may end up like the Pocket Station, and the Clie: unsupported in the long run. Sony can not afford that, but they still refuse to compete. That arrogance is not good for them in the future. Especially if Microsoft manages to pick up SquareEnix support on their next system. I think Sony fails to realize, that if the N64 had used discs instead of solid state media.. Sony would never have made the headway they did. In fact, the PS2 would have died in the water. Especially with their old restrictive policies of “No RPGS and no side-scrollers.” I mean, Battle Arena Toshinden was not a really “huge” seller.
u guys are all fanboys wat is wrong with u i like both and pspi just $35 bucks more i like both psp is slick nice graphics for the teen and adults ds is for the young its innovated and pretty good games i cant stand people who are fanboys i have all systems ds is cool im tryin to import a psp but they ran out it looks like psp is goin to sell more ds may be more sucessful though
I may come aross as leaning to the DS, but I’m also going to buy a PSP, though I’m going to wait until they launch in the US. The DS isn’t really “kiddie” because has some nice graphics, but the games that are coming out for it, you wouldn’t expect for a Nintendo portable. Like the different racers, XX/XY, a Madden launch title, etc. So I think more 3rd party companies are looking at Nintendo in a different way, and you will see more “mature” games than on previous Nintendo comsoles. At least thats how it looks so far. But those PSP graphics sure look sweet!
ure all gay fanboys fighting over consoles! just shut the **** up and buy the 1 u want ****heads! simple, can u say simple? s i m p l e!
well done dumb***es oh……….and i would like to say this is 2 ds fanboys not sony geniuses u can see the psp is waaaaaaaaaaay beta then the ****y ds lets compare them: baby rattle(DS, incase u dum****sdidnt no)vs. sleek,stylish psp. wat do u think ? 2 late its already been decided by god that the psp is much better than the ds he spits on it(that would be rain u dum****s) anyways, psp is beta ds is SHIT!
p.s whoeva said the psp was bulky and tonk unlike the ds ure wrong fucka! psp is smaller than the crusty predecessor of DS(urggg…i feel all cold and dirty just sayin its name) GBA which is also the same size of the obese DS
adz, your a hypocrite. You said fanboys shouldn’t fight, then you go bash the DS. If it makes you feel any better the PSP is great, I love it. I have a DS too, and thats awesome too, but the PSP is amazing. You won’t be disappointed with it. But don’t bash other systems, or other people will just start bashing the PSP.
sori jet u dumshit i luv psp but other consoles have already started bashing psp and its my duty to protect it!
The PSP is a piece of shit. It breaks if a breeze comes along, there are problems with the UMD popping out, not only is it ugly, but the games on it absolutely suck, especially when compared to the games for the DS.
Sorry, but you can all the PSP great all you want, it sucks….period. Die hard Sony fans are turning away from it.
Say all you want about the DS, you are just showing how ignorant you are. I think it’s funny that most of the people shooting it down don’t even own one, how dumb do you have to be to do that?
Welcome kids! It’s time for “How to debate handhelds!” Here is your host: Hand.
Hand: Before you debate which system you believe is the best, look at the HONEST STRENGTHES and HONEST WEAKNESSES of each system.
PSP
Pros: Big screen, plays multi-media, games can look as good as some of the current home consoles, MIPS R4000 32bit CPU, “sliding” analog stick, wireless and online play with game sharing options for some of the more simple titles, UMD medium costs very little to manufacture.
Cons: Slightly larger than competing handhelds, big screen is fragile, moving storage medium, requires memory cards that can get up to half the price of the system, high entry price in the USA, region locked movies, loading times, higher battery usage, motor for UMD drive emits a marginal amount of heat, screen glare makes screen no longer visible on a sunny day, games cost $10 to $20 more than the competition’s games, and the development cost for developing a game on it is twice the cost of developing a game for the competing handhelds. (Although the UMD the game is stored on is slightly cheaper to manufacture, development costs for programming, graphic design, etc. are more than competiting products development costs.)
Selling point PSP titles: Grand Theft Auto, Gran Turismo, Dead to Rights, Everquest (Remember to act surprised at E3 when it’s mentioned!), Devil May Cry, Ridge Racer, WipeOut Pure.
Nintendo DS
Pros: Two 32bit CPUs, graphics capability better than the N64 and PSOne, Touch Screen capability, built in microphone, dual screen gameplay, backwards compatible with over 500 GBA titles, lower price than competition, games are cheaper than competition, clamshell design protects the screens, built in chat function, wireless & internet play with game sharing, lower internal development costs than competition, better battery life than competition, reflective TFT screen is visible in sunlight, no external memory card needed to save game data, only one moving part. (The spring load for DS Game Cards.) Less fragile than the competition.
Cons: Larger than the GBA SP, not backwards compatible with GB/GBC software, needs external adapter to play multi-media, Game Cards are a few cents more expensive to manufacture, slightly thicker than competing handhelds, touch control can be akward, limited medium storage compared to competition. (DS Game Cards can be up to 8gb whereas PSP UMDs are 1.8GB and multiple UMD games may be made. 1 MegaByte is 7.8125 megabits or “8 megabits” respectively.)
Selling Point DS titles: Final Fantasy 3, Dragon Warrior Monsters, Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, Mario Kart, The Legend of Zelda, Wario Ware, Yu Gi Oh, Metroid Prime Hunters, Animal Crossing, Castlevania, Katamari Damacy.
There you go. Saying a game sucks is a subjective opinion, not an honest fact. The “sex appeal” factor is also subjective. Selling point DS/PSP titles are subjective as many titles may overlap both handheld libraries. Subjective is the opposite of Objective. Both systems can overcome their obvious cons. For example: The Nintendo DS does not have the storage space for the vivid textures and such that the PSP’s UMD media allows. However, the DS architecture is similar to that of the N64. Nintendo released a memory expansion module to improve the output of the N64 system as well as putting out a readable/writeable disc drive for the N64 in Japan. The Nintendo DS has Option Paks that accomplish much of the same thing but at different levels. Sony can always upgrade their batteries at the expense of the consumer pocketbook. The PSP is deliberately underclocked to preserve power output and reduce heat at this time. The PSP has some stuff left to do.
Don’t waste the few valuable (Read: SANE) brains cells we have left on mindless “PSPSUX/DSSUX” comments.
By the way, don’t bother reading the first fifty or so comments unless you like being bombarded by retarded, halfbaked, hairbrained fools who write their comments in favor of the DS. They were probably having seizures at the time. Nevertheless, the whole truth of the matter is that the PSP, in raw power as a gaming device, tops the DS (even the DS’s processor is physically unable to produce the same quality), while the DS is in its own ways a superior device, mainly in terms of Nintendo’s massive experience in the field of handhelds.
Nintendo, for example, knows the customer better in handhelds, knows how to market, and has 10 years of success backing its name. But owning both devices has given me an immense respect for sony, who against a formidable opponents launched itself blindly into the realm of portable devices, and come out with such a great device. Kudos to both nintendo and Sony.
However, I have to give it to sony in this issue, in that the PSP is better in A. it is sony’s first device in handheld gaming, and B. it is PHYSICALLY more powerful than the DS, no matter how dumb you may or may not be.
I’m not sure if anyone else noticed this but since when did portagame become this hub for psp(basically) and fighting over which system is better I personally want both because of the innovation they bring if you guys are gonna sit her and just go on and on and on about “how psp is better” or “DS innovates so much” then go start your wussy little forum on gamespot. I come to portagame to hear news on ALL yes you heard me right ALL the handhelds not your pathetic little comments if you want to whine go somewhere else.
Yeah jason, this is like a PSP/DS site now where everyone says “PSP kicks Ds’s ass” or “DS is so much more leeb than PSP” Why can’t they all shut up?
dude… it’s a messed up world out there… meanwhile you go get whatever you want people, i’m not taking a side.
people won’t shut up with the ds vs. psp… because a lot of them are fanboys, or they simply love those electronic gadgets too much. cmon guys, get a life… ds and psp both rock.
but you know what? i’m still getting a psp. lol
hey… naw, im new to this site and i live her in Japan… the PSP isnt 33,000Y. it’s only going for 20,000Y at the local Toys R’ US and depending on the yen rate… rite now, it bein 104 to the $ its under $200.00 cash just for the system. as for te DS $149.00 is about correct. Japan is hella crazy w/that new GBA movie card thing! ive never seen so much damn porn being sold for nintendo… well, latez

$320. Region locking. And a movie player that uses a proprietary format that will be impossible to burn my own movies on. BOO.
Also, I believe that it’s a Metroid DEMO not the full game that is being packed in.
