Nintendo DS PDA Panache Stylus Review

I checked out some of those beautiful styli from PDA Panache and I must say, they are well worth the price of admission.

Stylus1

I received my stylus very quickly from PDA Panache, and they arrived in a package similiar to what you buy a pen in, and judging from the description on the back, also similiar to their other custom high quality styli for PDA’s.

After opening the package, I felt the sudden weight of the stylus, but that was expected, as it is made from a solid billet of brass for “maximum mass and stiffness.” In other words, this feels a whole lot better in my hand than the little plastic stick the Nintendo DS came with.

Now while feeling better than the included stylus is nice, does it actually help you with your gaming? The answer in short, yes. The bright orange tip, which they said reduces scratches on the DS screen, and in a quick run through with Feel the Magic (Which is a game where you use the stylus a lot!), I noticed less marks on the screen, though it is hard to be sure. If nothing else, it doesn’t mess up the screen more so than the current DS stylus.

In addition to not causing as much harm to the screen, the orange tip helps improve your accuracy with the stylus, as it stands out better against the DS screen. To put this to the test, I entered Pictochat, and typed out “Portagame is where I go for all my gaming news.”

With the PDAPanache stylus, which I used first, I recieved a time of 35 seconds with only one error (Forgot the “h” in where) and with a time of 40 seconds with 3 errors for the second run through with the Nintendo stylus (”Whereigo” and “gming”). Now I’m sure a lot of you pros out there are a lot better than me with Pictochat, but I did notice I was at least slightly more accurate with the new stylus.

Stylus11

I could also game longer with it while not having a cramp in my hand. After going back to the old stylus for the Pictochat test, the Nintendo one just felt too light, not comfortable, and just awkward.

For those looking for a nice quality stylus, and use your stylus a lot, there is no reason not to upgrade. It fits in the back perfectly just like the old stylus, and you get a free Stick Stylus with your order. There is also a 30 day money back guarantee if your not happy, and lifetime tip repair if you ever game way too hard. I see very little reason not to upgrade if you use your Nintendo DS often.

Pros: Excellent quality, nice feel, orange tip helpful

Cons: Somewhat pricey
Overall rating: 9/10

Nice review man. That’s what we really need here is more and more reviews. Good job!

Thanks, I just wanted to do a little contribution. I’m also going to have a major review/ how to for multimedia on the PSP over at DAPreview, and once that is finished, I will get a link over here.
