Nintendo DS sales remarkably high
Considering the strong competition the DS is faced with, many consumers and critics alike foresaw a less then sufficient sales campaign for the Nintendo DS. Numbers so far, however, have provided quite a different opinion.
Analysts that were harshly critical about the DS’s touch screen were discredited by many pleased consumers. Over 5 million units sold worldwide - the DS has become a stronger trend then analysts had predicted. The PSP, deemed by many to strongly exceed Nintendo DS Sales, has yet to meet the DS sales with only slightly over 3 million units sold. The recent release of the “Electric Blue” DS version, bundled with the DS’s most popular title - Super Mario 64 DS, will certainly help to maintain and possibly improve the momentum of its current sales rate.
As the DS had an unfair advantage in North America by gaining the holliday consumers, it is hasty to make solid assumptions on the contrasting demand for the two systems, we will simply have to endure another holliday season before we can see how the two really fare against each other.
