Nintendo DS, system of choice for FPS?

Ok, the Nintendo DS is getting plenty of loving, and I’m sending you guys to Kotaku to figure out why. GoldenEye Rogue Agent has been looking interesting for me, even though it may just be a Metroid Hunters minus Samus. But it will have full support for up to 8 players with only one game card needed, and several multi player modes (Though I doubt there will be Infrastructure multi player, but maybe Metroid Hunters will support this online multi player mode). Anyway, someone over at Kotaku got to play with some DS games, and he just loved GoldenEye. So while the console version pretty much sucked eggs, maybe this one will be the perfect portable FPS we have been waiting for.

Sure Coded Arms for the PSP looks pretty (And its on my watch list, look for Coded Arms in late June), but without the perfection of the dual analog control scheme, can it match DS FPS’s? Whats your thoughts, post in the comments section and tell us what you think.

And here is the link to Kotaku.

I bought my DS the day after release and though I’m dissapointed in the titles released so far, I’ve been looking forward to games such as Goldeneye: Rouge Agent to feed my gaming needs.

The touch screen control set up is a perfect sim of the “WASD” and mouse config that most PC FPS gamers use. After playing the Metroid Prime demo on the DS over and over… I’ve come to love the handheld’s control even more.

I’m just hoping that this game will be as good, if not better than the original GoldeneEye (gameplay-wise), and I’m SO looking forward to plastering my friends’faces with rockets with the awesome multiplayer capabilites.

I said that the DS has the best HANDHELD fps control scheme in a comment a few months back…

It’s because it emulates a keyboard and mouse that makes it great.

However, currently the best control for a first-person shooter in a videogame would be a keyboard and mouse.

Even Lik-Sang.com knows, as they sell an adapter to link a keyboard and mouse to your xbox or ps2 - they had demonstration vids a while back.

I’m not getting a DS or a PSP though I am a member - I’d rather have an ultracompact laptop to play counter-strike on (and Far Cry, Doom3, War3, etc). Now THATS portagaming.

Counterstrike.. mm… delicious.

You know what I want on the Nintendo DS? Quake and the first Unreal.

But yeah.. the touch screen control in FPS games is indeed sweet.

Oh holy crap…cream.soda, i love farcry with a passion! some of the greatest graphics out there and what a huge game it is. i love it.

Farcry is coming to the consoles too. So, we may see a version of it pop up in the handhelds as well. Would be nice.

while i feel that the psp is a great handheld, i don’t think that it’s fps scheme will be able to match the ds’s touchscreen. The touch screen makes the movement much more fluid, like using a mouse with pc fps’s.

whats fps??

fps= first person shooters

counter strike RULEZ! it would be WICKED if it went on the DS :D hint hint nintendo

i had a nintendo DS, at first i was realy impressed with the graphics and the titles, but the idea of the touch srceen wasnt used effceintly and the titles, wernt that good, so i sold it and bought a psp, the psp in comparson, wow
the wifi compatble ness is a plus
but the 1 analog stick might be a problem but eh it cant be 2 bad

OMG Count-strike would rule on ds

I mean counter-strike

Do you seriously think the DS could handle CS? Don’t be silly! Half life 2, and even the first Half Life are way beyond the DS’s capabilities. The graphics engine would never be able to handle it AT ALL!

CS……mmmmmmmmmm :)

I dunno, downgrade the graphics, and with the wifi…

Possibility if you could combine that with an advance cartridge for the maps/user data…

I’d love ds more if they had a keyboard plugin, that would plug in the gba slot, but you could still have a gba game in.

Just imagine fps gaming on ds and things like pictochat!

Legibal text typed up faster than the virtual keyboard included!

that really sucks so i bought the other psp for nothing they sony sucks big ones. why didnt they do that for the first one…. rip offfff

OMG CS would be awesome on the DS. I’d be first in line at my Bestbuy for it. Also I would love to see a port of UT (Original) on it.

Any good shooter thats not Metroid would be awesome. It’s kind of sad that Nintendo can make a better FPS than all these developers who have been doing FPS’s for years. FPS is really new area for Ninty, and they did good with hunters. I hope other developers can take the clues.

I think MPH took so long because 1. Nintendo was hoping developers would choose the DS for shooters because of the touch screen and 2. After a year, nothing promising had come that either showed the DS’s graphical power OR provided a good FPS for it, so Nintendo decided to see how they could do.
