Nintendo Will Be at PAX

PAX Penny Arcade Expo Got the word form 4CR and GameGirlAdvance that Nintendo will be an exhibitor at the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) this year. PAX is an ultra-d0rker-game-a-thon being held in the Seattle area this August. You thought you were geek enough to attend E3, wait until you try on the hordes of PAX. From PCs and Consoles to Tabletop and card-games, PAX is the ultimate gamer geek experience. They feature several panels of interest to those who might want to get into the video games industry as well as just d0rking the flavor up a bit. Will I be there? I sure hope so.

So what’s the big deal with Nintendo flexing some muscle in it’s US home town? Well, first off this is a way to get in close to their user base. E3 squirms too much with “games journalist” (ahem, bloggers) and mighty press (ahem, IGN). PAX is less press, less mess. Sure there will be some press happening, but no where on the scale of E3 over-stimulation. The gamers themselves will most likely be able to play big upcoming Nintendo titles like the new Zelda TLP, Animal Crossing DS, Mario Kart DS, and maybe, perhaps, Mario 128? And they can play these titles without having to kick off press folk who are “previewing” the title for a few hours. We also know Nintendo was a little sneaky at E3 this year. It’s speculated that they may be holding out more Revolution, Gameboy, DS, and Mario 128 for Spaceworld. But perhaps this whole PAX deal may be a way to get back to basics and give back to their fans by coming out heavy. If so, it would be smart on Nintendo.

And a sweet deal for PAX. Nice job guys.

[Update: Offical word from Penny-Arcade here. Thanks Kreven!]
