Portagame Upgraded. No Spam In Effect. Future of Portagame detailed.

No Spam

We’ve been having a bit of a spam problem here on Portagame, and today I’m proud to announce that our comment spam issues are 99% fixed. We have upgraded to a more recent version of b2evolution (not the latest, but a more recent stable version than what we had) and installed several spam blocking plugins. We then deleted a bunch of old comment spam. I think we got most of it, but I know there are probably some older spam comments that I missed.

Probably the biggest changes for you is that when you leave a comment, you’ll now have to enter a captcha number with your comment. I know its inconvenient, but its a small price to pay considering you won’t have to scroll through hundreds of junk spam comments to read the legit ones.

As for the future of PG, we have a design team waiting on hand to redesign and essentially rebuild Portagame once the latest version of b2evolution is declared stable. There will be a lot of new features with that release that we are looking forward to incorporating into PG. As some of you know, Portagame is under new ownership and I’m sticking around as editor, admin, tech, etc to maintain it. The new owner is pretty excited about the future of Portagame. We will be bringing back forums. We’ll be doing a lot more with our RSS. We’ll be getting rid of a lot of ads (but we will still have some. Toying with the idea off turning ads off for members that log in). And those are just to get things started. We’re mostly looking forward to a new logo and design to get things rolling fresh. As for content, there are plans for that too.

So stay tuned, stay subscribed to our rss feed, and watch as we move into new directions. Your suggestions and comments are always welcome (and you can test out our new comment verification captcha). We have a 5 year roadmap. We’ve got plans for this place.

Hey Jason,

Nice to see things have been resurrected. I was interested in buying this site; it’s a shame you never got back to my email :P

I recently launched a new site, where anyone can post news stories. Several video game webmasters use it to bring traffic to their sites. It’s doing real well; PG writers may like to post snippets of their stories on their to help promote the site back up to it’s former glory. Good luck guys.

Luke, Sengo is looking good!

Thanks for the comments. I’m sure I still have your email, but as you can probably guess, its buried in spam (even though I use spamarrest. Every time I got a comment spam on any of my blogs I’d get a notification email. There is tens of thousands. That is my next major task at hand).

I’ll have to play more with sengo too. You are still welcome to post on PG anytime you find anything of interest. I’ll feature it pretty soon.

Aye Jason, I get notifications from people who responded to news I posted. Now I haven’t posted much, but I still get torrents of spam on ancient topics.

Good luck with redeveloping PG. :)

HI! I just wanted to tell you that i really liked your site and you did a great job with it. Just for your note http://mp3-metall.info has great music there.
