PSP line’s going round block
PSP line’s going round block
When PSP went on sale in North America at 12:01 a.m on Thursday there were huge lines of PSP hungry fans at every open games store hoping to get their hands on one. Its not even as if the devices were on discount, They were $250 dollars a pop. No doubt many Hard-core fans didn’t get their hands on one even after waiting in queues as many of the PSP’s were pre-ordered in advance and were gone before anyone else had a chance.
It seems the race between the DS and the PSP is finally taking place however late PSP is in the game.
When the device finally hits Europe it will really take effect as there’s huge numbers of fans right here in the UK waiting to get their hands on a unit eagerly.
Though It seems people here are importing them from Japan as the wait is just far too long .
Official Launch is still months away, We’re always last to get things…
But lets not forget “Good things come to those who wait”….yet I cant help but think better things come to those who don’t, America got the DS and PSP months before us…
Throughout all this I’m sure companies like Lik-Sang are selling PSP’s just about as fast as their getting them, Lik-Sang exports more goods then any other games company I know of. It seems a shame that Sony decided not to do a worldwide launch at the same time or even around the same time.
I for one would really like to see sales figures of the PSP in a week or so, I believe it has done better then DS at launch in north America, though I could be wrong only time can tell…

lol,
Yeah theres alot of people like you.
Japan models are the best from what i’ve heard.
Something about the screen being sharper.
You get a made in china one and its produced cheaper.
Ouch.
Hey for those of you buying the PSP overseas….becareful. From what I’m hearing is,just like the DVD’s the games disc (and Video)are not Universal. You cannot play games from Japan on a unit brought in the US and you cannot play games brought in the UK on a unit from Japan.
Games are universal.. movies though are not. As with DVD they are region locked. Japan and Europe are Region2 Usa region1.
Im sure their will be a way around it soon enough.
Home consoles have Boot Discs so
No doubt people will come up with something similar for PSP however much people may think it is or it is not possible.
One way or another, legal or illegal.
Actually, the games have Region Codes on the package and deep in the game. Right now, you CAN play imported games on any region PSP. However, Sony may lock that feature in future FIRMWARE updates at their descretion.
Considering Sony has a history of removing features when they update things in their Play Station brand, don’t be surprised if -to curtail poor sales of game software in certain regions- they lock out other regions games in the future.
Actually, early reports from NPD point to the PSP selling less units on its launch week than the DS. Right now, several stores in my town still have a lot of their initial shipments left. I think the best thing I ran into today was when I was at the AAFES on base and the loud speaker announced that the “Hot new PSP is not available at our stores due to high demand for the product and that they apologize for the problem.” Although I was standing next to the shelf where they had 14 units still available. o_O Eh. Hype is hype, I guess.
The PSP hasn’t been selling out at any of the stores here and I think it’s mostly the price though that stops early adaptors. This is a college town after all. I would advise a bit of clarity though in reading the news in the next few days. Sony shipped over 1.5 million units, but they didn’t SELL over 1.5 million units. Some websites like Games Industry, IGN, and several blogs like to confuse SHIPPED with SOLD. The two are completely different terms. Also, returned and replaced units are counted as two units by some of the other tracking services. NPD is one of the more honest ones, but the tracking company the New York Times uses tracks replaced units as double sales. Also, the press release out from Sony says shipped. It’s like when Nokia said they SHIPPED 1 million NGage units and other sites (like Spong) said they SOLD 1 million NGage units. Just be careful.
The stores in my area sold through their DS allotments in the first day. It is Sunday and none of them have sold through their initial allotments of PSP units. Even though they received comparable allotments of both systems at launch.
Very good point, Dmgice.
I have to agree the ridiculus price for the PSP is it’s greatest downfall. That and the screen cracking problem when you drop it. I don’t even want to shell out the $150 for a DS just yet. I definitely won’t spend $250 on a Sony product.
I was at the Best Buy near me on Friday and overheard employees bragging about their huge shipment of PSPs and how none of the little gaming stores (like gamestop and eb games) around for miles have any left. Gee, I don’t know. Maybe it’s cause they have shorter lines and the clerks can actually give educated advice? Personally, I try and give the smallers, more-focused, less-corporate businesses my money.
Doesn’t anybody remember when the PS2’s first came out they had problems with the systems only lasting a year. Overheating. I don’t think Sony prepares for the unavoidable… problems… like accidentally dropping your new $250 system onto a hardwood floor. Whee!
umm, i just called toys r us to see if they had any screen protectors. well, they didn’t because its a hot item but the guy told me that the screens arent safe because the high definition screens like the one on the psp has small air polygons open so that heat can escape and if you apply a screen protector, these polygons are no longer able to breath. Is this true??? i need a second opinion because it sounds a little odd to me, i mean, the screen as it looks to me is completely seemless so how could it breath if it had holes in the first place?
I need someones opinion on this…if this is true we need to let everyone know the irony of these screen protectors!!
Here is a report on PSP launch in SF Metreon. It’s a tick to read…

Hey Everybody!
I want a PSP too. Any problems? A local Wal-Mart still has 20 original PSP in stock (with Spiderman2). I noticed some of you talk about the web browser. I understand it is supposed to be on a future PSP possibly but I did read that Japan had the web browser. How can I get one with a web browser? How much does it cost? Are there any problems after two months usage of the PSP? Any thing else I need to know that I’m not thinking about here? Yes, I know it is costly but I think I can do enough survey’s to do it!!!!!
Sincerely,
Christina

Thank you.
wow, slow down there trucker. If you want the web browser, buying wipeout pure will get you on the net as long as you have an access point/router. After 2 months of psping, there is no problems on mine. i have one dead pixel that is very non noticable but they do not keep on dying so thats good. the ‘official’ web browser should be out soon, maybe will be unveiled at E3 with more stuff.
oh, and theres something else…BUY A WARRANTY! its only 30 bucks for one year so if anythings wrong with it, take it back without any worries
Man I brought a PSP it had problems with the umd flying out, dead pixels and bottem problem, also the sound was not working
I repliced my PSP and the same problems:
Flying out, dead pixels and bottem problem.
The next time I REPLAICED my PSP with a DS and a DS game, and I’m very happy now.
Whats that? PSP sucks? duh. a memory card 50 bucks? what the crap? games suck too(not to mention 10-15 buck more than ds games)? yes! online will be inferior to the ds (if it even gets one)? yes! Besides, pics and movies will come to the ds with the play yan. DS ROX
-ds gets mario- ha!
ps, hey gerardo…no1’s on ur side!
my friend was telling me not to get a psp as they overheat after playing on one for a certain period of time. is this true? as i am tempted to buy one
lol @ THEguy, so what if the DS gets mario, mario sucks! He is the ONLY reason Nintendo are able to stay afloat, especialy on the handheld market. Nintendo only stay because thousands of little kids and DS Fan boys idolise Mario. I mean come on, he’s been overused, and his games are just boring and repetative! Mario golf? Mario Tennis and i beleive Mario Soccer is coming out soon (and it’s football! i’m British :P). Whats next? Mario Accountancy?
Anyway,I hear the Games are universal, but the Movies are not, that won’t stop me, i’m not buying a PSP to watch movies on anyway. Does the Warrenty come with it or do you have to buy it speratly?
