Unique Nintendo DS Systems Get Celebrities Bidding

Nintendo DS at Sundance

Nintendo created a buzz amongst Sundancers this week as they held a charity auction for one-of-a-kind Nintendo DS systems. Not sure if they were cust0mz0rd by a famous artist or just a shmo, because Nintendo didn’t say. But they did say that Jay Mohr, Poppy Montgomery, and Alan Cumming outbid Lisa Kudrow (and others) for DS systems with paint jobs. The systems fell just short of cute.

Each celebrity had a charity that 100% of the proceeds would go to, with an added match from Nintendo. Mohr’s combined contribution for his “swirling blue metallic patern” DS was $15,000! And I thought the PSP was too expensive to import. Montgomery and Cumming collectively sent $12,000 to their selected charities in exchange for “gold graffiti patterns” and “a wild copper-and-brown one” respectively. Other celebrities stopped in and played the games.

See it for yourself. The offical news release from Park City, Utah.
