XBox360 information leaked
That’s right, its nothing to do with handheld’s, however - having such important significance, I thought it awful nice of me to share this with you all 3 days before the rest of the public finds out. Besides, its been a slow week for handhelds.
Many of you may have already seen the included picture, and rest assure, it IS the new XBox360. The specs are pretty impressive, outside of the detachable 20 GB hard drive, everything is pretty top of the line.
Processor (IBM Power PC based design): 3 symmetrical cores at 3.2 GHz each and a 1 MB L2 cache.
Custom ATI Graphics Processor: 500 MHz with 48-way parallel floating-point shader pipelines and unified shader architecture.
Memory: 512 MB GDDR3 RAM Running at 700 MHz DDR
Memory Bandwidth:
- 22.4 GB/s memory interface bus bandwidth
- 256 GB/s memory bandwidth to EDRAM
- 21.6 GB/s frontside bus
Audio:
- 320 independent decompression channels
- 32 bit processing
- 256+ audio channels
Also, if you don’t yet know - the controllers are wireless, and there are 3 usb ports in the XBox360 to recharge the wireless controllers. Unfortunately, they are not going to use any higher medium then DVD, so dont look for a better storage capacity. For all those with a Hi-Def TV, every game will take advantage of this.
Slow handheld week - rather big news here though

You’re saying that 512 MB GDDR RAM is small? The PSP has 32MB of RAM and that’s actually more RAM than the PS2.
The thing that looks iffy to me is this: “1 MB L2 cache” on each CPU. I can see that being an inhibitive factor. By going directly with DVDs again and not any type of different format, Microsoft is doing what Nintendo did with the DS, limiting it via software. The Memory Bandwidth is nice, little to nill loading times.
But it looks like.. GUSHER (Memory Bandwidth), GUSHER (512 RAM), trickle to each processer. (The cache.) I think that most games will shove a ton of information into that 512RAM and then just have an each individual processor do an individual thing. In, say, Perfect Dark, one processor is handling physics, the other structure, and the last passing out the graphics you see at a fixed interval from the RAM. Sleepy.
no, im not saying its small, not by any means. im saying that when you read “3 3.2 ghz powerpc proccesors” and then you read “512″ it SEEMS short, but the type of ram is amazing.
and the ps2 does have 32 mb ram, the xbox has 64, and the cube has over 46, but its dispersed and dedicated to different areas, and its static ram so its the best of the three.
and 1 mb L2 cache is PLENTY. people dont think that much of it because intel for some reason makes that amount standard, but rest assured, its more then enough to run any high tech game that comes out in the next 6 years.
remember, comparing these specs to computers is silly - the xbox360 is not running an operating system.
oh yeah - the type of ram the gamecube uses is still better then the type of ram that xbox360 has. static is still the best.
rest assured it will be between $250 and $350. most likely right at $300.
i guess youre entitled to your opinion, no matter how irational it is ;), but this time around you cant get away with calling it better technology, you can again be rest assured that the ps3 and revolution will blow the 360 away in performance.
Im happy about the new contoller…wireless and all and how the head set hooks into it at the bottom. Wonderful just wonderful.

compared to everything else, the 512 mb of ram may SEEM to be on the rather meager side. do not be fooled by the numbers, for GDDR3 ram is a new technology out that should smoke all other types of Ram chips and technology out there, static ram aside.
though from all of my research around the internet i havent found anything to give any deep details about this type of ram - (at least, nothing in english), its safe to say this ram will be blazing fast and efficient. i was a bit disappointed when i first heard that the graphics card wouldnt be using dedicated memory, but i think considering the ram type - my worries are put well to rest. If anybody whom really knows that much about this type of ram could maybe go into detail about it, and maybe compare it to the current king of ram types - static. would be greatly appreciated.
as far as the specs are concerned - this should make sony and nintendo very afraid haha! sony’s cell proccessor better be able to pay the bills and do your laundry, considering it’ll be out a whole year afterwards, and the revolution better be the biggest revolution since attilluh the hun.
although - in the end, its not power and graphics and technology that makes a game good (despite what gerardo tries to say), its the creative talent behind the development, and i still have a rather objective vision of this. so do not be fooled by my oogling and masturbating to the new specs, because i dont care for specs if they dont bring me the goods.
